Is Spence vs Crawford even that big of a fight financially?

Do casuals really know who Crawford is? Is he more famous and can he draw more buys than a Danny Garcia or a Shawn porter? These guys have consistently been in big fights. Porter has fought everybody. Both Garcias have a loyal Latino fanbase.

I don't see Spence vs Crawford doing over 500k buys, maybe not even 350k.
Pacquiao is a much bigger fight.
Canelo is a much much bigger fight.

No wonder it's not happening. Huge risk for both sides but only minimal reward for Spence, he has potential opponents lined up for YEARS at PBC

the only way they can make it work as a ppv is if they fill the undercard. in terms of recognition , i think its similar to when bradley finally fought alexander..and they had to broadcast it on regular hbo.

Completely agree. Spence only became a PPV "draw" because of his fight against Mikey and those numbers were because of Mikey not Spence.

Pac is a much bigger fight for both of them financially that's why they don't want to fight each other.

Crawford is well known, his mama saw to that. lol, at any rate he is more well known than a lot of people think he is. He fills up arenas.

BS. Neither one can sell over 300k ppvs without fighting the other.

Canelo vs the local Barber is a bigger money fight.

Joshua vs the neighborhood Kebab chef is a bigger money fight.

Fury vs a stray dog is a bigger money fight

And Pacquiao vs either Crawford or Pacquiao is a bigger money fight than the 2 against each other.

Im talking about $$$ not about its merit to the hardcore fans.

It would do 300-350K, most likely. That's good for about $28 million bucks at $80 a pop.

both crawford and spence lack crossover appeal and they are obscure even among casual fans , there is no way that they can carry a ppv by themselves.

That's what the thread is about, genius. Nobody is denying the fights importance to the welterweight division or its appeal to the hardcore fans.
The question is whether or not the fight is financially big enough to make both parties take the risk of fighting each other and force the promotional sides and TV networks work with each other and therefore split the dough.

I don't think it's financially possible to make the fight. Not enough return on investment. Highly doubtful this fight gets made anytime soon.

Do you not understand that if they're not earning enough then the fight won't happen?

Because 1: PBC and Top rank having to work together instead of having in-house fights means that they have to split the money.
2: ESPN and Fox have to split the money
3: The loser is basically done at welterweight, there is nowhere else to go. It's a huge risk similar to Fury Vs AJ. The winner is the kingpin and the loser has his future career earnings cut by 75+%

Therefore. If Spence vs Crawford doesn't make significantly more Money than Spence Vs Porter, Thurman or Pacquiao(which imo it doesn't.).... Then there is no incentive to make the fight for the reasons mentioned above.

Do you now understand the purpose of this thread?

of course i want to see the fight but op was asking about the financial viability. Boxing fans make a tiny percentage of ppv consumption, the whole idea behind the concept is to attract people who generally dont watch boxing and both spence and crawford are unknowns so the only way to push the event is by filling the undercard with a big name or mexicans, etc. since both fighters appear to demand insane purses the event is even harder to put together.
