Smith, Kovalev, Jacobs, Fielding, GGG. People say he faces weak opponents and always find a way to downplay his wins. I think out of the last opponents the only one who was trash was Fielding. He makes everyone else look like they have no skill with his style.
Smith = lost to Ryder; had 3 weeks to train Kovalev = punch resistance completely gone; almost KO'd by a prospect; fought Clenelo with just a short break after Yarde, and had a rehydration clause Jacobs = looked terrible for years after GGG GGG = gifted 2 decisions Fielding = hot garbage Clenelo is a perfect example of careful matchmaking and a strategically guided career.
Smith is pretty weak Kovalev old and shot Fielding is a bum GGG old ,past prime and clen couldn't beat him. Jacobs - good fighter in his prime
Kovalev didn't look unskilled, in fact he outboxed Canelo most of the fight. Jacobs made their fight quite close too and he's not the best. GGG beat him so hardly looked unskilled. He only made Smith and Fielding look average which seems about right.
Very good resume. Anybody trashing it expects him to fight prime HOFers or ATGs every single fight. That's just not realistic. There's always holes to poke, and you can do the same with your favorite fighter's resume.
Any one fight you can quibble with, but the whole 50+ wins taken as a group show he's pretty damn good. For me the only real criticism surrounds PEDs, and it's unlikely we'll ever know the whole truth there one way or another.
Kovalev was rehydration clause drained. He couldn't go 6 at his real pace. Fielding went to lose and isn't at that level, respect for stepping up though unlike gypsy cowards.
Everyone says Triple G is past his prime. He doesn't show it as he continues to take care of business against non-elite competition. Has UD wins over Derevyanchenko and Jacobs, Top 10 middleweights. The data points aren't really there to say he's fallen off compared to say Sergey Kovalev where the chin is gone. Then if that is the case was the version of GGG Canelo fought really past his prime? Or is it more wishful thinking Triple G is past his prime and he's about to get dropped in a fight. He was 35 when he first fought Canelo and is 38 now. He's one of those guy's who's been able to stay at peak condition longer than usual, IMO.
