Yep, Smith hasn't looked good against decent opposition for a while now. He was good against Groves and Ndam. Personally I thought he looked awesome on his way up but when he reached 'world' level, he really wasn't up to it.
Nah Smith was just schooled. I was suspect of the Kovalev fight though, it's not like he's afraid of trading with power punchers that much considering he's gone all out on bigger punchers before in his career. That and the fact that he was finding the mark with his jab a lot and yet didn't put any sting on it like is his trademark. Unlike Smith he wasn't being discouraged from throwing that much because he did have his timing down so for him not to capitalise like usual was bizarre and Canelo was not countering that effectively in the fight, don't know where that narrative has come from. Also when he said after the fight that he was never going to win the fight and cryptically insinuated he came to lay down and take the paycheck. If it wasn't outright fixed, then Kov just didn't come to win.
I must admit, those fights looked weird. Big guys like Kovalev and Smith basically found to be mostly pitty-pat backpedaling types.
I am SHOCKED, yes SHOCKED to read that ANYONE would insinuate that judges would give any advantage at all to the biggest cash cow in boxing. SHOCKED. I'm Adelaide Byrd, and I stand by my convictions.
After GGG his fights do look fixed. Possibly because his opponents are not given an opportunity for a proper training camp and they are just not prepared/out of shape.
Fixed? FFS have a week off. I'll say this about Kovalev, he had a quick turnaround after Yarde and there were reports he was hammering the beer and going a little rogue. Also, Kovalev had been in tough fights, wear and tear and wasn't what he was a while ago and he still was well in the fight before he got stopped. Smith is a myth (I love a rhyme), go and look at his resume and tell me his best 3 wins, then come back and tell me he was some kind of monster. Groves is his best win and Groves has spoken on this, he takes nothing away from Smith but the fact is his shoulder was pretty much done, Groves was fighting with half a shoulder. Other than Groves, who has Smith beat? Rocky Fielding? Ryder gave him terrors, he was dragged 10 rounds by Luke Blackledge, great KO but still 10 rounds. What has Smith done to warrant this kind of reaction to his defeat, like he was some elite fighter that didn't perform, Smith has never and will never be elite.
Hmmm. Whether I agree or not, I can see where youre coming from. Good response. I would just add, sometimes fighters fight like that because theyre nervous they will run out of gas... and their attempts to pace themselves isnt pulled off well and instead it just looks like theyre not trying (or sometimes trying but appear to be holding back... because they are). Maybe he was a bit drained and due to the short camp didnt trust his stamina. Also, he could have an undisclosed injury he didnt mention because he didnt want to ruin his payday. I just think there are so many explanations and variables that are much more plausible than jumping to overt felony fight fixing, imo.
number one shows you dksab so no need to even read the rest I stopped at canelo had alil head movement canelo probably has a top 5 defense in boxing lol
I agree with your points. Canelo is an excellent counter puncher. He is really good at taking advantage of the little openings created when a guy throws a punch at him. He is an accurate puncher with good power. Maybe not the greatest power but his accuracy is exceptional making his shots effective. He is a very good boxer at this point but I believe his counter punching ability really sets him apart.
The Kovalev fight looked weird to me. But then the KO happened. No way is anybody getting KO'd like that to throw a fight.
