What do you think? Has Canelo really improved enough that he'd be able to handle fighters with fast hands and footwork much easier? We've seen him have problems with fighters that use foot movement before such as Trout, Lara, Mayweather, and even Khan for a little bit, but that was before he fully matured. Obviously Canelo has had time to improve his style and it's shown that he's made adjustment to his style. I'm curious to know if he now has an easier time against fighters that use movement or if he still has a hard time with that style. Guys like Plant, Saunders, and Bivol all present that kind of puzzle for him but could they actually outbox the new and improved Canelo for 12 rounds?
When guys are smaller than you and can fight on the move they are harder to hit. Mayweather pretty much stood in the pocket against Canelo. Lara was fighting to survive and Kahn was caught viciously after canelo figured out how to time him. Canelo is good at cutting off the ring imo.
Look at his last two fights and you'll get your answer, He fought painfully slow 45 year old Kovalev who just came off a war, then he fought Smith who looked like Bambi and had the head movement of my grandma
The last real mover he fought was khan so its hard to say. He cut off the ring well on Smith but Smith has slowish feet and doesn't really jab and move enough to tell me how canelo would deal with a Saunders for example. I just think Saunders has wasted too much of his talent and Canelo is a consummate pro. Canelo knocks him out.
I would say yes simply because he's at his most effective when he plants his feet and unloads with those left hook, right hands and uppercuts. A mover will give him less opportunities to load up and fire and so limit his opportunities because his feet have to be set. But having said that he's obviously improved, he's harder to out box now as he's not as easy to hit and he's better at setting up traps. Also his speed at these higher weights will give him a bigger advantage than when fighting smaller, quicker guys.
JCC definitely struggled with movers. However the night he fought Camacho he was the devil himself. He was on a mission to humiliate Camacho. Tommy Hearns was a freak of nature. He was tall and long, and could punch from any distance.
After his last performance against Saunders I think it's safe to say that he has vastly improved and seems to know what to do now with that type of style. Now I'd like to see how he does against the likes of Plant and Bivol. At this point I think he beats them both convincingly.
To beat Canelo now a fighter probably needs to move a fair bit but also needs to back him up. Moving around and throwing light punches isn't going to work. An opponent probably needs to use a lot of lateral movement and angles and keep it long, but drive him back, punch hard, like punch a hole through his big block head. And keep punching.
sorry dude, As far as Julio César Chávez goes He struggled & lost to sweat pea Whitaker & quit on his stool vs de la Hoya. so no.
he was past prime and above his best weight for both fights. not saying he would have won otherwise, but that wasnt the same jc who was taking souls in boxing.
