    No.

You are talking about something completely different.

You can have a weaker division that is still very competitive.

    I’m not talking about that.

    I’m not talking about competitiveness.

    I’m talking about quality.

I’m talking about the ability of the fighters.

    Their overall skills.

The HW’s of today are not a more skilful group of fighters, with more ability than the best HW’s from almost 30 years ago, from 1991.

    See below:

    https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiKxpnQiuntAhUHT8AKHeqJBEgQFjAAegQIBhAC&url=https://boxrec.com/media/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine%27s_Annual_Ratings:_1991&usg=AOvVaw0oFkyc_gBY8doK0rMeaj0u

If you are objective and knowledgeable, you can see that there has been zero progression.

Below are the current ratings by Ring magazine for today’s SMW division:

    Canelo Alvarez
    David Benavidez
    Caleb Plant
    Callum Smith
    Anthony Dirrell
    Billy Joe Saunders
    Caleb Truax
    John Ryder
    Fedor Chudinov
    David Lemieux
    Daniel Jacobs

These were the SMW’s of the mid 90’s:

    Roy Jones
    James Toney
    Gerald McClellan
    Nigel Benn
    Frankie Liles
    Michael Nunn
    Steve Collins
    Chris Eubank
    Graciano Rochigianni
    Tim Littles

Those guys above fought 25 years ago.

    So where is the progression??

A quarter of a century has gone by, yet today’s SMW division is WEAKER.

So I’ve now given you 2 whole divisions to look at where there’s been zero progression.

    They’ve actually REGRESSED.

How about a comparison between today’s MW’s and the ones from the early 90’s?

    The Ring’s current ratings for today’s MW’s:

    Canelo Alvarez
    GGG
    Jermall Charlo
    Demetrius Andrade
    Sergiy Derevyanchenko
    Ryota Murata
    Chris Eubank Jnr
    Rob Brant
    Liam Williams
    Jaime Munguia
    Zhanibek Alimkhanuly

The MW’s of the early 90’s:

    Roy Jones
    James Toney
    Mike McCallum
    Julian Jackson
    Bernard Hopkins
    Reggie Johnson
    Michael Nunn
    Gerald McClellan
    Chris Eubank
    Sumbu Kalambay
    Herol Graham

Almost 30 years have passed, and again, today’s division is considerably weaker than the division from 1990-1993.

How many more examples do you need?

Again, we’re not talking about competitiveness.

We’re talking about quality and ability.

    The skills of the fighters.

Today’s HW’s, MW’s and SMW’s, are NOT as GOOD as their peers from 25-30 years ago.

That’s THREE divisions that are now WEAKER than what they once were.

    Three whole divisions.

So where is the constant progression?

    It doesn’t exist.

The sport of boxing just ebbs and flows, where it has done now for a number of years.

We have no idea how good the SMW’s will be in 20 years time. Yes, they could be much greater than today. But then again, they may be weaker. We won’t know until we get there. But what we do know, is that it’s not a given to just assume that they’ll be stronger. Not when today’s group are nowhere near as good as the ones from 25 years ago.

Now unless you’re going to bizarrely argue that today’s guys from the 3 divisions that I’ve mentioned are better, then you can clearly see for yourself that you and Ertwin are wrong.

This great sport of ours plateaued a long time ago.

    No knowledgeable fan thinks that.

Anybody who thinks that is completely biased and ignorant.

A knowledgeable fan knows that if you had a big tournament between the greats of the past and the fighters of today, that the tournament would yield mixed results, depending on how they'd have matched up stylistically.

When I go to bed each night, I pray that one day I’ll be as smart as what you are.

    This is your knowledge:

“Fury only beat Wilder because he was taller”

“The 2080 HW champ would crush Fury in a round”

    Ha!

The gift that keeps on giving.

    You speak without saying anything.

    It’s just nonsense to deflect.

Now come and explain to me how the sport keeps progressing, when I have just shown you that the current MW and SMW divisions are WEAKER than what they were 25-30 years ago?

    Enlighten us with your knowledge.

    Let us experience your expertise.

If today’s MW’s aren’t as good as the MW’s of the early 90’s, then:

    Where’s the progress??

    I’ll wait.

Why are you takings this personal? I have not even mentioned you at all. And no, it'd not arrogance, it's recognition of knowledge and experience on the topics. I've met plenty of young guys here who put in the time and effort to make themselves more knowledgeable about the sport. Thing is, they do it with humility, understanding what they don't know and not getting vagina hurt over it (Like you are for some reason). Our own mod Kirk is a prime example of that. He was a youngster when I first joined. Just as Isal was. But Kirk wasn't a know-it-all Quent like Isal was. He understood what he knew, and especially what he didn't. He wanted to learn, he asked questions. Too many punks come here thinking they already know everything about boxing and refuse to make efforts to properly understand the sport, the eras, the contenders, and everything else that comes with coming to thew party late. So, ice your vagina and chill out. Nothing I said was directed to you.

You are conversing with a casual.

A casual who thinks that Wilder only lost to Fury, because Fury was taller.

A casual who thinks that the sport keeps progressing, because athletics records have been broken.

A casual who compares a race from A to B, in milliseconds, to 2 fighters pitting their styles against each other in a boxing ring.

    He’ll learn.

Good point. Sometimes I don't know why I try with some. Just the optimistic in me that that thinks you can reason with internet trolls.

I didnt take it personal, you are coming of as arrogant, you are literally talking about this board as if it would be a boxing gym or a university, with learning experience and respect for the older ones. Bro half the people on here dont even know how to throw a 1-2 and they will call themselfs boxing expert?
The other problem is that you guys just live in a bubble were someone who says that the old fighters would have no chance against current fighters, which is a absolutely legitimate claim given any sport scientific evidence, is arrogant. Because for a lot of guys here those old fighter are treated with absurd respect.
None of us youngsters is suking the dik of a current fighters as hard as a lot of those old school defenders do, beside that fury guy, who i like by the way.
when I will be 70 I will not argue with my grand son that the boxers were as good when I was young, when there is data that proofs that thats not the case.

    He’s not a troll.

    He’s just uneducated.

He thinks that the sport keeps progressing, so that whoever the fighters are in 50-60 years time will be completely on another level to any of today’s guys.

This is what he said on another thread earlier in the year:

“The 2080 HW champ would crush Fury in a round”

He simply cannot comprehend that a sport that deals in milliseconds relies more on athletic performance than what boxing does.

He thinks that because the sprinters have gotten faster over recent decades, that the fighters must also have gotten better too. But that theory gets blasted to smithereens after you’ve realised that many of today’s divisions are in fact WEAKER than what they once were.

    Where’s the data, genius?

    Where?

    Show us.

Your only source of data is 2 sprinters running between 2 points, which is timed in milliseconds.

    I’ll ask you once again:

If the sport of boxing keeps progressing over time, then why are the current MW and SMW divisions WEAKER than what they were a quarter of a century ago??

What was arrogant? Suggesting that those w/ more knowledge and experience are generally more reliable than those w/o the same knowledge?

No, I don't live in this bubble you suggest because I don't believe that to begin with.

 Look man, you've clearly jumped to conclusions about what I said. You've taken umbrage to what i said as if I was attacking you, likely because, i can only assume, you are in your early 20's.

About "sukig the dik"...your choice of verbiage says a lot about you. This isn't al 'all or nothing' thing with me. I've clearly stated many young guys here have proven themselves wise w/o getting butthurt. But it's rare in this age of internet trash talk.

When you're 70, boxing at what we know will not exist. So what data are you talking about?
Guys from the 60, 70's fought 15 round fights. That meant they had to be in tremendous shape close to year round. Is that true of today's HW's? No.

Have there been great advances in technique that were unknown 50 years ago? nope. Unless you have an example of something new.

Training techniques? We've come up with better methods of training, I won't deny that. but what good is this training when guys are lucky to fight once/twice a year at 12 rounds max compared to 4-5 at 15 rounds?

If you want to believe HW's are better today while citing the WORST HW era ever, good for you. I don't believe anyone but millennials will buy that.
