Say he decided that Heeney wasn't his last fight and he continued defending against all comers, who would eventually have beaten him?

My assumption is that it would have been Sharkey or Schmeling, both men were 5 to 8 years years younger than Gene and seemed similar in skill sets to each other so whomever got the match would have beaten Tunney.

He would be beaten handily by better men and not regarded so highly for his shallow HW achievements.

Let's say he faced Jack Sharkey in his third defense. Im giving Tunney a 50 - 50 shot there. A lot depends on where Sharkey s mind is going in to the fight.
Anyway, if Gene gets past Jack and then faced Schmeling?
Well that s it for me, that's as far as Tunney goes.
Max puts up a great fight against the older man and proves to much for him.
Tunney gets stopped for the first time in his career and calls it a day.
Schmeling by 13 th round ko.
