Exactly this. What drugs did Armstrong take? What weight clauses did he impose on guys to drain them?
I was not around when Armstrong fought. And perhaps there will never be another. That was a tougher era. Same day weigh ins. 15 round fights. One had to love boxing. Armstrong was one bad MOFO. Now? Canelo will never get his due on this forum because of the crying GGG fans. GGG never had the balls to even go up a division. Canelo goes after bigger challenges and the excuses fly. GGG was calling out small guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao! Canelo has a close fight. Naysayers, "the judges are on his side." Canelo has already won titles in divisions 38lb apart (if we count village titles like Manny had). Let's talk about the other "Armstrong"---Manny Pacquiao. Manny has titles across 35lb but small men get more titles because of so many fricking lower divisions only 3 pounds apart. Manny didn't exactly fight fighters in their prime neither: Morales, Mosley, Mayweather, DLH, Hatton, Margarito ... My point is Manny padded his record against aged fighters. Manny also received some favorable scoring in Las Vegas vs JMM. If Manny is in consideration, then Canelo also deserves consideration. Canelo may never displace Armstrong, but a modern day Armstrong reference is deserved as it is for Manny.
Well, yeah. It's been widely reported he didn't deserve the decision over Ambers and very easily could have been disqualified in both fights. As for 4 week training camps, that's a long training camp for Armstrong. I think his biggest ever victory actually came after Ross had fought in just the previous month. He fought Lew Jenkins in a none title fight despite weighing within the 147 limit. He shamelessly ducked Cocoa Kid. Despite all of this he's absolutely one of the greatest fighters in recorded history and pretty much a staple in any top 5 ATG list. I think it's cute that you think Canelo is the first fighter having things his own way.
Canelo hasn't jumped enough divisions to be conoarable with Armstrong. Within 3 years Armstrong had fought the number 1 fighter ah FW, LW, WW and MW. That's half of the available divisions at the time. It would be like Canelo fighting Spence, Golovkin, Beterbiev and Fury in their own weight classes. It's unthinkable for a fighter to do what Armstrong did, in a modern era. The closest is Pacquiao and even he didn't replicate the consistent approach to fighting the best guy in ever single division.
I don't think about Canelo fighting the top 3 guys in 3 different weight divisions. I think about him pulling the okey doke in the modern age. I think about Armstrong as a top-10 all-time lb. for lb.
I think that what this guy is asking is if canelo will defend several weight titles at the same time, as henry did. I dont think he was comparing canelo with henry armstrong in any other aspect, tbh. You are too eager for canelo's blood, guys. You should control you hatred. Imho canelo will be strippd before he can do that.
I understand why some here would get offended by the thread title, and i'm pretty confident the OP was not comparing Canelo to Armstrong. The premise of his thread is correct. Canelo is one of the fighters(if not THE FIGHTER) that has come the closest to doing what Armstrong did.
that's your mexican trifecta...mexican margarito, oscar, canelo. nothing wrong with supporting your countrymen, but that initial reply to my oscar post is what piqued my interest, because your emotions were involved.
no it wasn't, that was just the 'pang' of emotion you felt from being mexican and overly invested in someone who shares that same heritage. i understand why a lot of people have this, but it's a blessing when you don't. the only time, for example, that i've ever mentioned danny green KO'íng roy jones in 1, is to highlight the importance of context in breaking down a fighter's 'win'.
Again, the fact that you can't seem to focus on anything other than heritage/color/nationality(call it whatever you want) proves my point. Keep projecting my friend.
