Was about to write something similar, but you beat me to it!

Those first several posts, about how Briscoe would knock him right out of the ring, put a hurting on him, run him into the ground, etc... seriously, what is wrong with people?

A very thoughtful and well laid out prognosis, almost Shakespearean in its Prowse, more of the same soon, keep well.

Briscoe LIVE !! Nirvana , who was he up against ? remember like it was yesterday ( prob 73/74 ) the front cover of the Boxing News had Bennie sitting at a piano, hands bandaged with white T shirt, caption read " The fighter who trades in fear " in the article, Liston no less, had remarked that when he saw Bennie in the unpaid ranks, that he might be " the last of the great body punchers " wish I could have seen him live you, keep well.

Right because Canelo fought ANYONE near the caliber of CARLOS MONZON or met a murderous puncher like HART.
Or better yet Canelo hasn't gotten any gift decsions right?

You gotta look at time periods. Look when Briscoe was a contender. It WAS harder back then.
Canelo is a house fighter- he gets all the special treatment Briscoe didn't.
Briscoe lost to LUIS Rodriguez who Canelo would never get into the ring witn in the first place.
    List Canelos FIVE best wins.

If they were scheduled to fight, I would bet a heavy sum of money that Canelo would knock Hart out in the first two rounds. Ditto for Canelo’s two time opponent Golovkin.

You just doubled down on the entire point of my post. Hart was a massive puncher, but literally nothing else. Not skill, not chin, not stamina, nothing. Yet he’s one of two opponents you mentioned as proof of Briscoe’s superiority. Just further showcasing how much you overrate fighters from yesteryear.

Oh, and Monzon beat Briscoe wide. Getting rocked one time doesn’t negate that.

Rodriguez was an aging, clearly declining Welterweight that still handily beat Briscoe both times they fought. Briscoe was arguably a bit green, though. Kinda like Canelo against Floyd. Forgivable. However, losing to an ANCIENT Welterweight like Griffith in late ‘74 isn’t.

Best wins? Do you really need them listed? His resume is by far the best and most high profile in the sport, regardless of whether or not you think he got a gift against Golovkin.

How about holding Monzon- one of the greatest Middleweight champions of alltime to a DRAW the first time they fought.
If Hart lands that hook on Canelo its going to be a problem.
That Luis Rodriguez is a better boxer then ANYONE Canelo fought with the exception of Mayweather.
The best boxer Canelo EVER faced was Mayweather and he was DOMINATED in EVERY round.
Second best was Lara and he got a SPLIT DECISION in a fight that I as well thought he lost.
Third best boxer was GGG and I'm not a fan of either but their is no way Canelo won that first fight.
    How is that impressive??

Are you kidding me??? Jacobs win was indeed a good win.
GGG?? He LOST the first one and BESIDES all that your going to tell me GGG wasn't past his prime?
    LARA bout? A SPLIT DECISION.
KOV was SHOT to pieces and you know it.
Cotto was WAY past his best fighting weight and his prime.
Callum Smith? The one who LOST to Ryder??

Canelo all day, every day...Regardless of distance. Bennie was an excellent grinder, but didn't have the jab and single punch pop needed to convince Alvarez to keep his hands at home. Based on eye test. Alvarez has the much faster hands and has improved his ring movement enough to avoid staying off the ropes for an extended period of time. Canelo beats Briscoe to the punch, and banks enough rounds to withstand a late rounds surge over fifteen. Over 12, I think highly enough of Bennie to think he might take three or four.

I've seen it opined, perhaps reasonably?, that Briscoe was on a slow decline by the time of the Monzon rematch even tho many important victories and paydays were still ahead of him. By the time he fought Griffith, Briscoe had 63 pro fights behind him over 12 years and there was a lot of wars in that. Bennie was no cutie. On top of this he was coming off the only stoppage loss of his career.

The obvious counter is that Emile was about 5 years older and had been fighting for 5 years longer with even more bouts under his belt and was naturally smaller to boot. I think it's fair to say tho that a guy like Griffith was always a more skillful fighter and as Briscoe, never speedy, started to plod a bit he was pretty susceptible to skill. I'm open to different takes however.

I've been saying myself recently that i find Bennie a bit overrated nowadays but he was one tough hombre and very very hard to beat at his best. He was just a tank, almost unstoppable, always coming for you and oozing with strength and power. He certainly didn't neglect the body either and was very dedicated to the sport.

He's an interesting study and i need to watch some of his bouts again.

Makes sense John, the love for BB on here is palpable, he epitomizes the blue collar fighter, holds down a day job ( early part ) then packs bags to fight that night, his no nonsense approach, the body punching, the slightly scary look, fought any one any where, check out the 2nd Valdez fight, ok he lost ! just sit back in awe at the early round shots he lets go to Valdezs mid section, truly hurtful thudding punches, he must be in the top 5 of all time for that art, love him.
