Why do people say Nigel Benn has a glass chin?

He was only ever down against huge puncher McClellan and got up, recovered and came back and took more huge punches from him and stayed standing and also got dropped against Watson, but that was early on in his career and he got dropped due to exhaustion, it's not he got hurt in loads of fights, people with no chin get hurt against non punches, Benn never got hurt against a non puncher and he took some big punches from Eubank and never got dropped

He was down or hurt vs Gent, Galvano, Watson, Barkley, DeWitt, Logan and Eubank. He didn't have one, but that's why people say it.

To some fighters a knock down is a catastrophe they never recover.
To Benn it was merely an occupational hazard just a price to pay for his style, he was probably even more dangerous after he was knocked down or hurt.

I've never heard anyone say Benn has a glass chin. With his style and attitude he was always going to get countered and hurt/floored but Nigel had great recovery powers.

I’ve definitely heard it said. It’s not correct, but I could see how a Benn newcomer could be misled into thinking it. Not even an especially difficult mistake to make, depending on what fights you’ve seen.

Really though, the McClellan fight alone should be enough to dispel that notion.

Benn didn't duck anyone as I recall.
We took on the best, was a very exciting fighter. Defence wasn't always his first objective !
When you take on the best, your bound to get tagged at times with his boxing ethos.
He had a lot of tough fights, it's probably a culmination of this that took it's toll.
I'm not sure I'd put him in the 'glass jaw' bracket though.
He was great to watch, never had a dull fight in my opinion.

X’s 3! This is the first I have heard this rumor...and if I heard it first hand I would challenge the agenda and bias of the comment and commentor. Not an iron chin for sure, but closer to that than a glass one.

Kinda like Maidana, his chin isn’t weak but it’s the price you pay for having a rugged style. I’ve also heard people say Benn had a weak chin and I’ve always disagreed

You'd have to actually make a post then, why do that when you can start yet another thread?
