Starling was knocked out after the bell by a fighter.

Curry wasn`t as good a finisher as Trinidad who couldn`t stop Whitaker.

Whitaker had a good defense, too. One of the best of all time. Curry also had enough skill to catch Starling, which he did often. Still didn’t come close to stopping him. Trinidad caught a shot Whitaker very often as well, with more powerful punches than Curry hit with. Still didn’t stop him.

It’s a bogus call, man. Especially with no attempt to even back it up. Anything’s possible, I guess, but there’s nothing to suggest that as a realistic conclusion to this fight.

Whitaker was not 31 in 1993 when he moved up to welter.

Whitaker was about 29 when he moved up to welter.

Honestly, that's debatable, but except for a fluke stoppage, he was never down, so I think it was pretty good.

Marlon, in those days, was just a shade under Curry in terms of talent and skill. It no embarrassment or shame that he didn't stop Marlon. But I think Donald had the talent, skill, and focus to make Pernell retreat, and in that retreat, face some possible knockdowns. I am sure of it.

Better counterpunching ability, more power, and fast, which Pernell would have to be on his p's and q's with.

Pernell retreating was par for the course. He was known for his ability to maintain a high offensive output (all behind that tremendous southpaw jab) while going backwards. It was one of his specialties. Whitaker boxing off the back foot isn’t an accomplishment for the opponent. It just makes their night worse.

For him, taking on Donald Curry could be one of the worst nights of his life.
