Idiot Check 2021: does this KO look 'real' to you?

Serious questions to ask yourselves: would you fall that hard on purpose?

What does Occam's Razor tell us is simpler and more logical, that a) somebody fell really hard and hit their head on the mat on purpose and mitigated the fall by sticking their elbow to brace themselves despite their objective being to just pretend to be falling or that b) somebody was KTFO and the smallest part of their remaining consciousness' survival instincts kicked in so they shot a limb out to buffer the impact as is human instinct?

Are human brains under any obligation to respond to abrupt neurological damage with a limited set of behaviors that look a certain expected way in every circumstance, or does that sort of thing and the sundry variable involved maybe invite the occasional situation that looks 'awkward' or weird?

 

Believe it or not, the consensus on this forum 9½ years ago was opposite what the poll reflects now. Goes to show how carried away the chirping mob can get..

Here was my contemporaneous writeup:

"Ramos did NOT cushion his fall; he made only the most perfunctory and instinctive of attempts to do so with his quickly fading remaining faculties.

He did NOT willfully shut his eyes; they fluttered shut.

If you watch it without preconceived bias there is NOTHING all that strange looking about it.

The sequence goes:

Boom / backward momentum / down / asleep.

That all pretty much squares with how people respond when hit with rifle-cracks like that. So it looked somewhat "awkward"? Sure. And? People tend to not be at their most graceful when they've had their brains scrambled...even when their loss of senses is gradual enough that they have the minimal presence of mind to feebly try and get their arms behind them before succumbing to gravity.

Listen. Stage actors, professional wrestlers, historical reenactment folk - they all train in prat falls to varying degrees, some for years, some for their ENTIRE ADULT LIVES to make their prat falls a) convincing and more importantly b) safe. Unless Likar Ramos had advanced lung cancer or something with only a month left to live, there is no reason that he being of sound mind would willingly take that punch from Márquez and then compound the cerebral damage it surely caused by allowing himself to collapse in an only semi-braced manner. EXTREMELY UNSAFE.

There are lots of funny looking kayoes. (Chicken Dance, Montiel Twitch, delayed reactions of all sorts, etc). None of them were fake - at least I hope none of you morons think so. Knockouts sometimes just look weird. It depends on a lot of variables: the punch itself, its angle and velocity; the recipient's footing and relative positioning (Ramos', in this case); his hydration level; his neck tension at that precise moment, etc.

This is not a matter where it's OK to agree to disagree. Why should those seeing this for what it was be "offended"?

LIES are being spread from ignorance and spawning into a Big Dumb Mob mentality. A man gets KTFO and rather than credit being given to the conqueror or sympathies to the vanquished (possibly in severe medical jeopardy), both are subjected to undue scrutiny because a few IDIOTS can't reconcile that something didn't look the way they expected it to look, or wasn't something they'd seen before.

Heh...yeah, I was a tad melodramatic (yet also kind of a badass poster in spite of, if not partly because of that) in those days.

 

Do you personally think it makes a difference in this case, though? Can you not make the same conclusion from the blurry video as from the sharper one? I fail to see how one couldn't. It really isn't that close a thing.

 

Riiight. He couldn't have just been half witless and looking around as he processed that shot and the additional smack on his skull when he landed, stuck in a neurological purgatory of mostly but not all the way out of it. Nope, had to be that he was lucid enough after such heavy impact to be PRETENDING to sleep. (even though sleeping has never been a prerequisite for losing a match via stoppage; you literally just have to not beat a ten-count, or hell, beat it and then wobble so bad the ref waves it off. But no. Fake sleeping is much easier and more sensible...)
