Who wins, prime for prime. I think Bruno is underrated. He fought in a very strong era and only lost to very good fighters (and really should have beaten Smith). Joshua is a mega star but has been somewhat exposed lately. Bruno has a better jab and technically a better boxer overall imho Joshua has better inside skills, possibly better combo puncher and a better finisher Both have oodles of power. Both have stamina and arguably confidence issues 50:50 in my view. I can see Frank outjabbing Joshua, and finishing him late on. I can also see Joshua having early success on the inside with a mid rounds ko. EIther way don't think it would go the distance. Would appreciate peoples' thoughts.
I would lean to AJ but really it’s too early to tell. My lasting memory of Bruno was that he lost all the big ones. AJ has Wlad on his resume but we need to see how he gets on with Fury first.
AJ is a more skilled boxer, he won olympic gold and is a better, faster combo puncher, he outboxed Pulev, he`s better at landing the uppercut and has a better variety of punches, Ruiz would have stopped Bruno because he couldn`t Fury would have easily out-boxed Bruno, Frank never faced a long jab like Fury`s aside from a shop worn Williams and Fury moves far better than Williams did v Frank.
Bruno only lost to world class HWs and AJ is a world class HW. I think AJ stops Bruno late, around the 9th-11th round. Bruno used to gas really badly in the later rounds and once he is hurt he freezes and cannot defend himself
There was one big one he didnt lose. The fight with Oliver McCall where he won the WBC HW title. Even in that one though he gassed horribly and was hanging on for dear life to see out the last 2 rounds, against a McCall who wasnt himself in there.
These debates should be left to when both fighters are retired? How do we know how good Joshua is / was in his prime when his career hasn't finished yet?
Fair point mate and it was brilliant for Bruno, I was referring to Tyson and Lewis, and no shame really in losing to either of those.
Bruno. Mid round stoppage. Whilst it is true he lost some big fights, but he has always given a good account of himself, barring Tyson 2 which was not too bad, but he has never been knocked out, always stopped. The Bruno that fought Lewis would be too much for Joshua, once he clips AJ flush with his right i dont think he recovers, i think he goes down takes a count but then Bruno comes in and KOs him.
I think Joshua beats Bruno. I don't think Joshua beats Lewis. Bruno used to gas worse than Joshua. I see it as a good fight and would have loved to have watched it. I think we will see AJ at his best v fury. If that is good enough to beat fury I don't know. The ruiz defeat in new York makes you think there aren't any certainties at heavyweight.
Oh how the mighty have fallen! Not long ago posters were picking Joshua to beat Ali, now he's being tagged as getting knocked out by Frank Bruno.....a very real possibility too.
Bruno didn`t do much in his fight with Lewis other than throw the jab and a few rights hands, AJ has more punch variety, Lewis wasn`t very creative v Frank and he didn`t use feints, pretty basic.
More than likely AJ Bruno would have good success with his jab but ultimately fall apart when AJ puts it on him in the middle to late rounds
Ahh right. Thought it was just me that had witnessed Bruno giving Lennox a rough time for a while. Oh well....
