Scientifically, there's never even been any proof speedbags work.

Take this energy to the gym instead. Even if it means going out of town. These low effort posts are cringe bro.

I mean it’s just basic timing, and it doesn’t assist in a way that’s completely useful in the fight besides knowing how to coordinate your arms together. It doesn’t have a great use but when you’re first starting it has utility to learn to hit it, especially if you’re proper unco

They are very effective, boxers and athletes use them for hand - eye coordination. They are also very effective for your average online forumite to build hand - dick coordination.

To an extent when you first start out I definitely agree, but it gets to a point where it’s purely just muscle memory

It's supposed to be for repetitive motion and keeping your arms limber, not actual punch technique refinement.

Anyone know why boxers call jogging "road work"? Is there some history behind it?

That's because you don't have a clue in how to use one.

Are you really coming into this board and stating that professionals from Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tyson, Mayweather, Pacquaio to Ali and every other professional who uses speeds bags do so, for no real reason and that you understand it more than they and their trainers do?

It must be wonderful to be you. Just to have that kind of confidence in ones self no matter how wrong your statements are...
    1. Speed: The one main use of the speed bag is the hand speed that it develops. This is because of the design the speed bag has; allowing it to react to you, just as quick as you react to it. This creates a back-and-forth that is nowhere achievable by any other fitness instrument.
    2. Power: The only way to effectively hit a speed bag is to constantly have your hands up; consequently strengthening stabilizing micro-fibers in your scapula and shoulders. These micro-fibers give you an increased stability that translates to punching power. There is no surprise that Mike Tyson, one of the hardest hitters of all time, used a speed bag as an integral part of his training.
    3. Precision: Floyd Mayweather jr has built a career on precision. Precision always beats power. How can you beat an opponent if you can't hit him? Hitting an opponent in the right place will put him out way more often then hitting him in just any place. The speed bag is a piece of equipment that you always have to hit in the right spot, with the correct part of your hand to get the desired rebound to be able to hit it again. This habitual movement increases the precision of your strikes in a way no other piece of gym equipment could.
Timing, coordination etc etc. I’m sure the most successful boxers, from Tyson to Ali, Mayweather jr, who all use the speed bag and have access to the latest scientific methods and training equipment are completely wrong and you are completely right. Yup...*sarcasm* it serves no point just because you don’t understand or know how to google it.
