Him and price on the prograis v Taylor classic didn't pass 200,000(reportedly) yet against usyk he did a million?...do me a favour
Shows exactly why Fast Ed is the best promoter. No way would someone like Bellew earn the money he has with Fisheyes or Kalle etc.
It's about marketability. The heavyweight division sets itself apart in that regard, particularly over a 140 pounder. Josh Taylor might be an excellent boxer, but he's a small man and his personality will rub a lot of people up the wrong way. The figures don't surprise me whatsoever.
Mate, you cannot be serious? Of course this didn't do a million buys ffs haha. As Dragon Punch said earlier, it would be lucky if it got 150,000 buys. Casual sports fans don't even know who these two are. I'm surprised about Chisora in that regard - the amount of football mad folk at my work who would respond, "i think i've heard of him" when asked about Chisora, only to then explain his previous out the ring antics which further sparked their memory. Boxing does far less buys now than it used to. People are more savvy with streaming now. If Brook/GGG (same versions as 2016) happened in 2021 then it wouldn't do more than 250k compared to the believable 400/500k it done back then. Like seriously, i'm interested how someone can come to the conclusion of finding these numbers believable. If i ever become that naive then please shoot me. Then again, the vast majority believed it was just "two weeks to flatten the curve". Sorry, i can't resist. LOL.
Agree with the points you made and I like everyone else would expect the usyk fight to do more ppv's.im surprised anyone would believe it did a million though it's ludicrous.
*If* it had legitimately been anywhere near those numbers, Hearn would’ve been shouting it from the rooftops months ago. I’m not quite sure where this phenomenon of judging PPV figures from BARB ratings comes from (I suspect it’d be around that time that page went up on Wikipedia), but people do need to take them with a grain of salt. The nature of BARB reporting is fine for your mainstream channels that have a regular viewership, but for niche channels and events it can massively skew one way or another. Not a criticism of BARB, it’s probably still the best way of judging traditional TV ratings, but nobody is seriously taking any notice of these numbers for PPVs. Main reason being that everyone involved knows the actual amount of PPVs that were sold and don’t need to rely on projecting or estimating from BARB.
Come on, Dereck Chisora is a growing pay-per-view star. 1 million seems perfectly reasonable, especially considering the quality of opponent. Your comment about streaming caught me by surprise. You're talking about a bygone era, the police are clamping down on streaming. Only real nutters do that now. Limewire also disappeared several years ago, in case you hadn't noticed. In fact, I'm genuinely surprised that it only did 1 million, especially after the explosive interview on IFL TV during fight week where Chisora was brutally honest. I thought that every man and his dog would have seen that, and told their friends and grandparents about it. I'll hold my hands up and say I got this one wrong. I predicted 1.6 million to 1.8 million. All for the price of a Dominoes. I will admit that I'm biased, though. I do like the heavyweight puddings.
The Angling Club is having to expand the rivers and lakes to accommodate huge interest these days - here in Liverpool even Pool and Snooker cues are being stolen and turned into oars. Marcelo Bielsa's bucket will be stolen soon as seats are so scarce.
Taylor’s personality? I’d say he comes across the most likeable of any British boxer currently. Seems very down to earth. Chisora on the other hand is a scumbag.
You really must think a lot of Hearn's power in the world if you think he could 'bung' a fairly anonymous group that surveys people about the TV they watch... Maybe people were just bored in the house?
He is from a rich powerful family and a massive part of sky sports, of course he has influence with people or knows the right people who do One million BUYS of Chisora vs Usyk, yeah right
Yes, if that was the case. BARB figures show viewing for the channel, not the event. There have been several fights where people have reported figures from BARB, without identifying that (eg) a WWE PPV was on the same week. Any time BARB figures are quoted for fights, we should 1) understand that these are not in any way official figures and 2) properly assess the data for any distortions. They need to be treated with caution at best, and a pinch of salt at worst.
