Griffin was faster and a better defensive fighter so Barkley would miss a lot of shots but would Griffin be brave enough to counter he didn`t like getting bullied around by Jones in their rematch? I`d lean towards Griffin after what Toney did to Barkley, Griffin got hit far less by Toney than Barkley did, Griffin was just a counter puncher though which could held Barkley here he might out-work him.
Griffin on points. As long as he doesn't do any thing silly, which you can't do against The Blade, he should get the win.
Man, Barkely was relentness against Hearn 2. Montell would not be able to just sit back and outbox him. I favour Barkley to win by KO. I figure at some point Barkely would land a crushing left hook while behind on points.
Montell wins via a clear UD. I watched Montell fight in a few amauter tournaments in the midwest and the guy was just a phenomenal fighter that was not only well schooled but incredibly gifted with natural speed and reflexes. I love Barkley's heart/will but for all of his positive traits like toughness and strength, he was slow footed and Taylor made for Montell.
Dariusz was getting to him although that stoppage was a premature. You could see signs that Dariusz pressure was causing concerns.I see the same thing happening to Griffin. Barkley is very aggressive and can wreck
On paper I like the style matchup for Griffin,,,,but if Barkley can get a fight to break out........he ko's him. His only chance at victory would be by KO and I think he'd go into the fight knowing that. Interesting fight.
That's the thing about Montell, he was excellent at controlling distance even though he was a very small lightheavyweight. He was a very smart guy that was great at using his footwork and keeping his head offline. Barkley didn't have the speed or skill to deal with a guy as technically sound as Montell and Montell isn't likely going to get caught by a shot from him. Barkley was at his best when guys brought the fight to him. Montell certainly would not do that.
Both of these guys were too inconsistent to make either one a solid favorite but I’ll give the edge to the natural light heavy who beat James Toney.
Griffin "should" have been able to outbox Barkley and most likely would have however I believe he gets worn down and stopped by the much bigger Barkley
