By my count, 14 Chileans have fought for a boxing world title without ever winning a title for their nation. Is this a country record for most title challengers but no champion?

Arturo Godoy, who fought Joe Louis twice, is their most famous boxer.

I would say maybe Martin Vargas as well .. Fought for the title 3 times , lost to Canto and Gushiken .. Benedicto Villablanca was awarded the title for a few weeks before the head butt was challenged and over turned .. Campos is their hope now ,,, for a title

I'm afraid, I'm gonna have to disappoint you!

Besides those already mentioned... off the top of my head, the only other Chilean world title challenger I can think of, is Stanislaus Loayza.

I'm sure, there must be several from the lighter divisions, that have escaped my attention.. but I'm very surprised to hear, that there have been no less than 14 Chilean challengers! I would certainly like to see IS's list of those 14.

So then the fact 14 Chileans fought for a world title without ever winning a title for their nation makes for a country record for most title challengers but no champion in boxing?

Here's the list of 14 Chileans to have challenged for a world title:
    Stanislaus Loayza
    Arturo Godoy
    Benedicto Villablanca
    Martin Vargas
    Routier Parra
    Carlos Uribe
    Godfrey Stevens
    Cardenio Ulloa
    Alli Galvez
    Bernardo Mendoza
    Benito Badilla
    Juvenal Ordenes
    Pedro Villegas
    Miguel Gonzalez

What do folks think...is pitting 14 challengers but no world title a country record for Chile in boxing history?

I won't bet my life on it - but I would be very surprised if 14 challengers, without a single title, isn't a record!
