Can any domestic 154lbers beat Liam Smith?

I don't think they do, the more I think about Liam is probably the best p4p Smith brother

Look how easily Smith despatched Eggington. Was an absolute beat down.
Eggington goes on to give Cheeseman all he can handle.

Not that he's domestic, the only UK 154lber that can compete these days is Kell Brook.

Thoughts? or am I underrating the likes of Cheeseman, Fowler and Fitzy?

A fit and focused Fitzgerald would have the best chance but I doubt we’ll get that. Just have to settle for the Machine Fowler beating area level fighters and Spanish waiters for now.

Needs to be more active Smith he in a strange situation he’s just a level below the top boys but probably has to much for most or if not all the boys on the domestic scene , has he got anything lined up ? Where does he go next ?

Liam Smith - Former World Champion, 32 years old, 3 fights in the last 2 years and hasn't fought anyone in over a year. Either he's waiting for one last big payday or it's over, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the latter as I can't see a big payday coming from anywhere right now.

He seems to be waiting for a big fight for decent moneyZ rumours are he’s going to fight Jessie Vargas.

but for me would have been better off going through eggington, Cheeseman and Fowler inside of a year and would likely have been back on the cusp of a title fight

In a recent IFL interview Hearn said Jessie Vargas is the fight for beefy, possibly a run out before. Sounds like they’re having trouble putting it together without fans

It’s fun to watch but right now Smith is levels above the others.

To be fair covid has really impacted upon the the business in 2020, especially the continuously changing goalposts. Many boxing promoters back in May expected the fans back and viable shows from early October.

Then in September, they were planning for it from January when that was delayed.

Here we are in January and now the earliest possible date is July.

So you cant blame any fighter for inactivity over the last 12-18 months.

I would personally like to see Smith vs Eubank Jr. I think it would be a great fight. Although I know Eubank Jr is likely to fight Murata next.

He should have stayed with Frank. With his diminishing stable he would have been one of his main focuses and Frank probably could have got him another WBO slot. I'm not a Matchroom guy or a Queensbury guy, like everyone else I just want to see the best fights but the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Hearn is clearly having trouble getting everyone out, particularly with his issues with Gallagher, while Warren is desperate for headliners.

Good division domestically but Smith is a level or two above. As an above poster mentioned, look how easily he went through Eggington without getting out of first gear.

In terms of domestic talent, I think Scott Fitzgerald can really make some noise but his career is going to end up wasted.

I agree that would have been ideal, some great fights there.

Cheeseman has been offered the Liam Smith fight, as far as I know more than once and it was turned down each time.

I don't think Cheeseman or Fowler would fight him, unless it was for mega money and even then I am not convinced they would. They have each had a damaging loss (to reputation and ego more than physically), I think their respective teams know Liam would not only beat them, but would expose them badly, probably do some real damage to them too in light of what sort of fight it would be.

I’d back metcalfe to beat smith with the stages that the two fighters are at in their careers now

I say that because of smiths in activity it’s a closer fight than the rest
