thats a lot of info for a simple reply mate :) . OK, we all know most fighters always cite a fighter they have beaten previously, as the hardest/biggest puncher they have faced. I have no reason to disbelieve him and can only take him on his word. Look, in my opinion, its a kinda moot point regarding who hit harder than who, insofar that 1) if a fighter is hurt ala patterson v ingo or frazier v foreman, then it dont really matter who is the bigger puncher as the recipient was hurt badly and tried their best or 2) Holyfield has nothing to gain by saying this as, against the grain, hes named a guy who beat him twice and has fought many big bangers never made a dent and who he doesnt name

It's blatantly obvious there's plenty of crap put forward in the "Best I've Faced" articles. Some fighters simply hate others or are still salty at getting beaten by them or are simply in denial. The hardest hitter section isn't exempt.

Don't get me wrong, there's loads of great info and the vast majority is mouth watering stuff. A lot of the time you can get a feel for those being straight as an arrow and those not over the course of their statements.

You see a lot of guys big upping guys they beat while casting shade on those they lost too as well.

I love the articles but i read them with an open mind.

Bowe's avowal of Herbie Hide as hardest hitter always struck me as shady. No mention of Lewis or Golota....?

Hide did have a vicious shot, but no.

I've probably seen worse but it does catch the eye. He did only fight Lewis in the ams tho and hates him to this day LOL

Hard to believe Golota didn't punch as hard as Herbie Hide, especially given his flooring and basically wrecking Bowe. Against Hide Bowe only cringed a little.

Also, Bowe needs to give it up. He had his chance, and I do believe he could have beat him after the Holy I fight. Right around and after the Hide fight he would have gotten smacked silly by LL.

You might well be right. Golota tho was one of those heavy handed thudding type punchers. Hide would have been more explosive one might say?

Hide would have done so much better after Marciano retired lol.

I'd have to revisit but didn't Hide hurt him a few times early?

He got him a couple of nice shots in the 2nd, and Bowe covered up. That was mostly it. Bowe basically ran over him with his size. It was a clumsy, oafish performance. That wasn't the Bowe of the first Holy fight....Lewis would have stomped him (shoot, Foreman might have beat him at that point).

I'll have to revisit this one mate. I do remember Bowe struggling.

I think this could sum up much of Bowes career. With few exceptions, When it wasn’t the first Holyfield fight, much of Bowes performances were quite clumsy and oafish.

You are correct. The more competitive the fight, the more unlikely it is the full extent of punching power can be realised. Which is why I think it is a big deal when a good fighter gets knocked out. Against Wlad, Mercer has lost that extra second to react that he had against Lewis. He more likely would have took more of the full extent of Wlads power than he had against Lewis.
