Foreman was excellent at cutting the ring. I highly doubt Joshua traps Ali.

Regarding Toney, punches add up quick despite boxers blocking their opponents (not letting them score). Boxers don't realize that their bodies don't know the difference when it comes to pain and punishment.

This is why blocking is the lowest form of defense. Anybody thinking James Toney isn't a defensive genius has an agenda to push. If he chose to be more economical and win boring fights he'd get hit much much less. The fact his defense fed his offense so well is more than obvious to anyone who saw him on his best nights.

Rocky Marciano would have beaten any man born from his mother at Cruiser or Light heavy.

Toney also sparred a ton and fought on way too long. It’s not like boxers are born being great at defense. They have to work at it in the gym, and in doing so, take a lot of hits in the process.

Benitez was a better defensive fighter than Toney and he’s horribly brain damaged and needs 24 hour care. He fought on way too long and who knows how much punishment he took in the gym, and also maybe on the street when his dad would make him fight random kids and then he would gamble on it.

It’s also just plain unpredictable on how fighters will be in the long run after their boxing careers. Larry Holmes, George Foreman, and George Chuvalo all had long pro careers and got hit a lot and they are still sharp. Others aren’t so lucky. Jermaine Taylor appears to be a ticking time bomb.

Howard Cosell, though sometimes down on certain fighter for being washed up, was generally pretty objective and accurate in his commentary, contrary to common belief.

They should bring back 15 round fights at least for unification bouts. With champions that are evenly matched.

    From yesterday's thread:

'88 Mike Tyson would be too small to rule the heavyweight division since the appearance of Bowe and Lewis in the 90s onward:

That Wladimir Klitshcko is overrated on an epic scale. That Vitali was the better fighter and that Wlad's reign was the gift of a brother's love.
