They could well have met in 1986 had Tubbs beaten Tim Witherspoon early that year.

Bruno would have had quite a lot of success in the early rounds but inevitably gas out later on. Tubbs would wear Frank down with his superior hand and footspeed.

I see Tubbs winning this. Tubbs arguably deserved the win against a near prime Riddick Bowe.

If they had met for the title (if Witherspoon/Tubbs was ruled a NC), I think The Bomber might have won a title at the first attempt.

Tubbs seemed to have lost interest in the sport, was in as bad a shape physically as he ever was, and Bruno could give anyone other than Tyson, at the time, a real fight for half a dozen rounds.

So with home advantage too boot, this should be enough for Frank to win on a mid rounds stoppage.

Great fight! I lean towards Tubbs here. But Bruno could box with him too...

So many great 80's bouts that could've, and should've, been made.

    Tubbs-vs-Douglas
    Bruno-vs-Tucker
    Cooney-vs-Ruddock
    Dokes-vs-Witherspoon
    Pink Thomas-vs-Carl Williams
    Page-vs-Biggs
    Weaver-vs-Berbick
    ...Holmes-vs-Foreman...

I'd bet on an in [better] shape Tubbs, but not all that heavily.

An in shape Tubbs gives Bruno a Witherspoon type fight loss imo. Frank lookin like the potential champ for round after round, then Tubbs catching him as he fades.

Pinklon would probably pull out a tough decision late against Williams, and Page, at his best, stops Biggs late.

I agree. Thomas would eventually win the battle of the jabs and Page, at his best, comes on to stop Biggs late in the fight.

You can also pit Thomas against Page and Williams against Biggs. So many terrific matches in a decade loaded with talent.

Definitely. That is the sad part about it. The fact that politics played some part in Mike Weaver's reign is somewhat tragic.
