The whole boxing world is already in full Joshua v Fury mode, their promoters are both saying they have an agreement in place and are close to announcing it as the next bout for their fighters. The fighters themselves are already building the fight narrative and furthermore its the fight the majority of fans want of any that could be made. And as you stated yourself Fury said he will never fight Wilder again. Yet you think we're close to Fury v Wilder 3 being signed!? Come on man, give it up, Wilder can rebuild and fight a few opponents similar in ability to the rest of his resume bar Fury and Ortiz, before having a go at Joshua's left overs (again) in Andy Ruiz! It's not all lost, but after almost a year your pining for a pointless third fight should be!

They may however find that the contractual obligation to provide a rematch had been satisfied by Arum offering two extensions to the original date and that the clause could not be allowed to remain indefinitely at the broadcasters convenience due to the damage it would do to Fury's career. Irrelevant to the judge. All they have to say is that Fury should be free to pursue his career and that the clause expired at the end of the year. That's their argument, their may be an act of god clause in there that will require interpretation by the arbiter. Most fans given the choice would rather see him take on the other champ and that would generate the most money in boxing next year. If the clause is enforced, Fury is locked into a guaranteed earnings split which Wilder otherwise would no longer get. He's out of the game whilst AJ has to take on risky fights that he could lose and with it, the chance of a massive 2 or maybe even 3 fight deal which would propel Fury's earnings into the stratosphere. The reason Fury doesn't want to fight Wilder is the AJ fight. There is talk of a $150 dollar payday. This absolutely dwarfs what he could earn with Wilder. Yes I hear you on that, as fans we just want to see these guys in the ring It's looking like Fury AJ X2 (possibly 3) could take us to mid - end 2022, and possibly longer if there is a KO or decisive win and they have a tick over in between, which means the division is locked down until 2023 possibly, which is a bit **** If Fury AJ are going to fight I'd like to see the first one in the spring but looking unlikely at this stage, I would guess September
They might just maybe agree to do two, and to do the first one ASAP, after which they can wait as much as a year for the rematch. But on balance I think your guess is the best one.
I'm not sure how much Fury's management team expected to fight a third time with Wilder even before the contract expired to be honest. This may seem a strange aside, but I noticed EAsports were producing Fury and Joshua as playable characters in UFC4. They were released in August 2020. Then there would have been development time. It seems like Joshua v Fury has been getting marketed/planned for quite some time.
