A little thing called COVID-19 happened, which disrupted every single active fighter's career. Prior to that, there were negotiations to fight Crawford as confirmed by Pacquiao, Arum, and Crawford himself. Had 2020 been a normal year, I'm certain Pacquiao would have fought Crawford and Mikey Garcia or Spence. The criticism that Pacquiao never fought true welterweights is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. Cotto? Clottey? Margarito? Mosley? Mayweather? Thurman? Bradley, Algieri, Rios, Broner, and Marquez all moved up to welterweight because most fighters move up. What about Marquez, Maidana, Ortiz, Berto, and Guerrero? Those guys moved up too and Floyd fought them at welterweight. And guess what? Every single guy Pacquiao fought at welterweight was bigger than him with the exception of Marquez and he was literally outmuscled there too. And you also forget that Pacquiao has a high ranking government position and is less than a part time boxer. I don't fault him one bit for taking the Ryan García fight who by the way will be bigger than him even if the fight was at 147.
Pacman hasbeen written off as a hasbeen since 9-February-1996 Pacman can't read or hear, he hasbeen getting ready for bigger fights, all his life... Pacman storming the Light Heavyweight division will not surprise anybody...Especially his hardcore fans
I have made the same criticism of 20+ year old fighters as well. Feel free to look up my posts. I slammed the annoying heavyweights for taking forever to unify, same as I did Canelo, the welterweights, etc.
I used the word "morern" in the 2nd paragraph so you obviously did read it. If he's too old to be more than a part time boxer then he should give up the belt. What's wrong with me saying that? It's because of people like you defending this nonsense that we don't get the best fights made or undisputed.
butthurt about...? What exactly? Did you just want to contribute to the thread and threw out some random baseless accusation for likes? Why would I be butthurt about Pacuiao, I'd love to hear it. He certainly never beat any of my favorite fighters if that's what you thought.
Pretty sure I made a thread criticizing both Crawford and Spence and hoping they would get it on already less than a month ago. Yeah and I gave him credit for beating Margarito. Did you miss this part of my post...??? Ok maybe it's because I'm not active on the general forum that often, but goddamn is this hilarious. I literally went ham for multiple pages DEFENDING Pacuiao over Crawford not that long ago and criticized Crawford's opponent selection: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/my-take-on-the-state-of-welterweights.659931/ You lack reading comprehension, or you didn't bother reading everything. I said I had no problem with him fighting Ryan. I said Manny has earned the right to be more careful in his opponent selection and if a big money fight is offered, he not only deserves it he should take it. I'm just tired of him teasing/name dropping and holding the WBA belt hostage. That's it. He's holding up the division.
1-COVID was not a thing when he said he wanted to fight the winner of Mikey vs Spence. He was hoping Mikey would win because that would be an easy fight and name dropped to stay relevant. The fact this has happened not once but twice tells me no, he absolutely does not want to fight Spence. 2-Really? You're "certain" he'd fight Crawford even though Roach was dead set against it and said it was a stylistic nightmare...? 3-Cotto was at a catchweight so you're actually the dumb one for bringing this up. I mentioned Margarito very early on in my post but apparently some of you can't read. I mentioned Mayweather and I also mentioned how he was moving up in weight and not a true bonafide welterweight. Mosley was a thousand years old and gunshy. I gave him credit for beating Thurman. You skimmed through my post and then got triggered without even paying attention.
Pac was basically signed to fight Crawford before Covid happened. Still, I don't care who he fights or if he chases clout/money fights. He earned that right. The problem with the young guns is that they want to get those fights before earning their stripes.
Pac is a part-time boxer. He has very strict windows in which he can fight. He obviously couldn't fight in the second half of 2019 or else he would have. If not against Spence, then someone else. The Crawford fight was supposed to happen in 2020. All parties said the fight was almost a go. So yeah, he was going to fight Crawford. Did you conveniently forget that Floyd's own trainer said that he would fear for his son's life if he fought Pac? Cotto was a welterweight. The catchweight does not change that fact. I'm not triggered, just countering your idiotic thread. It's a boxing forum. And be consistent — you should be lambasting Spence for begging for that fight against a small, old, semi-shot 42 year old, no?
Why is everyone acting like pac is a natural ww? I keep hearing about garcia being "from 2 weight classes below" ... When pac was garcia's age he was a flyeight! Garcia is 5 inches taller. You think when garcia is in his 40s he'll be making 147 without trying? Garcia is the bigger guy if they fight at the same weight. This isn't an easy fight for pac imo. Garcia is not on his level obv but he is slowing down, has one stoppage win in over a decade, and will have to outwork a younger hungry fighter. This isn't Broner shitting the bed for a payday or an inactive thurman sitting on the couch with those things wrapped on his legs. Of course it's still amazing pac man beat thurman but nobody thought "pac just beat the best thurman we've seen" I think garcia will be respectful and try and box to a decision.
He's over 40 you numbskull. He's already got an insane legacy, he should not have to get a beating at the hands of a prime elite fighter just to satisfy your bloodlust.
You said "obviously" and yet you provided no evidence. I don't think you get how proof works. He didn't fight anyone the rest of 2019 or even 2020 for that matter so reality doesn't align with your claim. Again, proof? I find that hard to believe. This content is protected This content is protected Roach was petrified of Crawford. WTF does Floyd, a boxer who retired 4 years ago, have to do with this thread? The answer is NOTHING. He is living rent free in your head and now you assume anyone who has criticisms for Pacuiao is a die hard Floyd fan. Get over yourself. It changed Cotto's ability to perform in the fight. He was drained. The fact you brought up Floyd who has jack **** to do with this thread indicates yes, you are triggered and are bringing up false equivalencies. Me saying that a world champion should defend his belt or vacate it due to the fact they've done nothing for nearly 2 years is idiotic? So "smart" people think it's ok for boxers to be stagnant and inactive with no significant fights made? Gotcha. I am very consistent. I know it confuses the simple minded that I criticize everyone equally and I'm not a fanboy who makes excuses for the best not fighting the best. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/my-take-on-the-state-of-welterweights.659931/
I don't remember ever writing that Pacuiao was a natural welterweight or that Garcia would be an easy fight. My only issue is that he is holding the WBA belt hostage by picking a guy 2 weight classes below to fight. It doesn't matter what Pacuiao weighed when he was Garcia's age. RIGHT NOW he is a champion at 147 and should be fighting the best guys at 147. If he doesn't want to do that he should vacate. It's that simple. I will have no beef with Pac if he does that and then cashes out with a big payday, he deserves it. Just don't hold up the rest of 147.
Hey numbskull, if you actually bothered to read my post, you would know I said I would have no problem with him not fighting Spence or Crawford so long as he gives up the WBA belt so that we could get closer to undisputed. There is literally no point in him having that belt if he isn't fighting anyone in that division.
