Witnessing it live at 2 or 3 pm it felt like the perfect moment for Haye to dethrone Wlad. The excitement of his entrance and how the fans was singing along with the song hag me convinced that Haye had the momentum. Then the bell rung and reality hit that he wasn’t penetrating that guard and would not stop that jab. He had just defeated Fraudley and put on a Fraudley like performance.
Haye was overrated but he was overrated because he was a puncher and punchers are often overrated. So nothing new here really.
He had a ton of talent and potential. Just didn't seem to have it 100% mentally or the heart to be great.
His speed is what was very overrated. People rambled on and on about his amazing speed, but it was mostly limited to single punches. He had a very fast right hand, but his combinations were not very fast. They were sloppy and lacked fluidity.
One of the most overrated boxers in recent memory. I remember the consensus was that he would batter Fury in 2013. I thought it was nonsense at the time. People cite the Cunningham bout as an example of Fury's weakness, as if he would have fannied around like that in a bout with Haye.
I agree. It was exciting when Haye announced he was jumping to hw and gonna revive the division... What we got was a big fat dud.
No not at all. If anything the British hype machine gives attention to division long forgotten or completely ignored. The Brits are actually righteous in their hype machines sometimes.
