Joshua is such a big puncher that the greatest punch he ever threw, the uppercut against glass-jawed Klitschko, couldn't even put the old man down. 41 year old.
AJ finished molina faster than wilder, but obv nobody thinks AJ is a harder one puncher than wilder. AJ is the only guy to stop Povetkin. The parker fight was a mess bc of the ref and also parker was just trying to survive bc AJs mystique at the time was intact. He dropped ruiz several times and I think is the only opponent to ever so so to ruiz, who has a solid chin. I don't think AJ has like foreman wilder shavers power, but I think he has some good power. The guy has still stopped everyone he fought except ruiz and parker (and I think he could have stopped parker if the ref stopped shoving them apart from each other. And many of the people he ko had never even been down.
That's quite a conclusion to draw from absolutely no indication of this hypothesis. Joshua didn't land a glove on Parker.
You can do this to practically anyones record. Doesnt mean much. "Wlads power is overrated.... Thompson stopped Haye and Mormeck dropped him at cruiser but Haye went all 12 with Wlad!" Ect ect. Also odd to me people are always comparing the Breaz fight when comparing Wilders and AJs power. People know they have three common opponents ya? AJ has stopped 2 of the 3 faster than Wilder did. AJ stopped Gavern quicker than Wilder. AJ stopped Molina like 5 rounds quicker than Wilder. So, Wilder stopped a Breaz that literally walked face first into a wind up full power mortal kombat fatality punch from Wilder, quicker than AJ did... hes still losing the common opponent comparison when you look at the bigger picture. Meh.
Overrated fighter. All his ”KOs” are ref stoppages, opponents still on their feet. Look what happend when AJ fought 2 hungry lions (Ruiz & Parker) they both had him running for his life or gave him his first loss.
Joshua has the uppercut, but if it's neutralised, that's pretty much it. He's not particularly a big puncher at range. Not a heavy handed jabber. Would like Deontay to come out of retirement and expose that weakness. But the bodybuilder has decided to cash out against Fury, rather than accept the bomb squads most generous offer. Coward.
I don’t see many claiming that Joshua beats a prime Wlad. Also, there’s no shame in not hitting as hard as Wlad. Given Joshua’s achievements and what former pros say about him, it’s fair to say that Joshua is underrated these days. Yes, once upon a time Joshua was seen as the second coming, but not these days. That over inflated rep belongs to his UK counterpart.
Well for starters "old Wlad" was a better fighter than "young Wlad" who fought Purrity, Brewster etc.......
Overrated puncher? Would you say that Mike Tyson was an overrated puncher? There were a few bigger 1 shot punchers than him in his day. Bonecrusher Smith, Bruno, Ruddock, Lewis to name a few. Mike was a GREAT combination puncher and this is where Joshua excels too. It isn't just about pure power but also delivery. Joshua has stopped all but 2 opponents and is fighting at a good level so I dont think he is overratted as a puncher TBH. No, he doesn't have the catapult delivery and electric power of Wilder but he doesn't really need that as he's much more rounded.
If Wilder fought better competition, we could get a better gauge of his power. But he avoided the best heavyweights so we will never know. Then he gets TKOed by Fury, who is not even a hard hitter hahaha. Had Wilder fought the guys that AJ fought, WHEN he fought them, then Wilder would not be such a feared puncher and he also would have more than one defeat on his record.
I put his power below Wlad and Wilders for one shot power. But he obviously hits very hard. He stopped Johnson in 2 rds, who the hell has done that! Dubois, Hrgovic an Ruiz Jr all failed to stop and older more past it Johnson than Joshua faced. Only man to stop Povetkin who even now is teak tough as the Whyte fight proved. Putting Povetkin down is one thing, keeping him down is another as a prime Wlad learned when he faced him.
He's certainly not a one shot knockout artist but that's less about punching power and more about timing. I'm sure he punches extremely hard
