@70sFan865, I've decided to keep you updated on EVERY review I do involving a Jack Sharkey fight. This was the first I've watched upon me re-entry to watching boxing, and this is also the earliest Sharkey match I've ever seen. I hadn't seen it before, and didn't know what to expect. It had been a long time since I had seen Sharkey tbh.
I was right off surprised out how heavily muscled Sharkey was in this fight. I looks a lot more ordinary in his later fights, even by the early 30s I would say. Moving on with the assessment:

    1. There were some exchanges in this round, won by McTigue. McTigue.
    2. McTigue kept Sharkey back with his jabs, as well as good power punches. Sharkey fought more desperately in this round, which meant he fought wildly, swinging with wide shots that missed significantly. McTigue.

After this, the film skipped right to round 10. The commentator said that Sharkey had pulled ahead in the fight and that McTigue was rallying in the 8th and 9th. True or not, I had McTigue ahead on the sole basis of the film. Of course, I won't deny that jumping from 2 to 10 definitely gives Sharkey time to get ahead.
    10. The highlight of the 10th was an electrifying exchange between the two. McTigue was the aggressor and Sharkey did some good counterpunching in return. McTigue won the exchange though, and the round as well. Later in the round McTigue connected with a huge right haymaker. McTigue.
    12. Sharkey was forcing a lot of uppercuts and hooks inside. McTigue was not hurt, or even tired, but the fight was stopped. My surmise is that he must of been cut, otherwise, it was probably the worst stoppage of seen to date in my history of watching boxing.

You have to give McTigue a lot of credit for outfighting Sharkey despite a 30-pound disadvantage.

Verdict: A lively heavyweight scrap. One of the better ones I've seen from the 20s, but not exciting or significant enough to be hailed as a classic.

As my first watch of Sharkey in a long time, @70sFan865, I was not impressed. He got upstaged by a much smaller McTigue, who I thought was winning the fight comfortably, just basing the score on the available film.

Your copy is the GFC version which is edited and the rounds are incorrectly labeled, as several GFC fights are. The only footage of this fight that exists is missing the first three rounds. I cant remember which rounds they are but the rounds listed in this copy as 1 and 2 are actually later rounds.

Interesting to know, but not very helpful to me. I just go at these fights the way they appear. If there's errors in the video, it's nice to know, and thnx to you or anyone else who informs me about it, but it's time for me to move on to other fights.

Just watched this one, and my reaction is that Sharkey looked mediocre here. McTigue seems able to out jab him. I know some observers had McTigue ahead going into the 12th.

It is impossible to tell on this film, but the fight was stopped, from what I understand, after McTigue suffered a badly cut lip and was bleeding profusely.

So, in this one Sharkey doesn't look nearly as good as he does against Mahoney and Dempsey. Of course, McTigue boxes him and keeps a jab in his face while Dempsey almost never jabbed. I will be re-watching the Mahoney fight next to comment.
