One thing I asked one of my favourite fighters Darnell Boone is who would have won this. He leaned towards Kovalev but said it was no certainty.

To be honest I thought these were two of the most exciting light heavyweights of the last 15 years. For me there's been no better match up that could have been made at that weight than these two in their primes.

I do think Stevenson ducked it mind. One scary thing to think is if Stevenson had already had pre existing damage that lead to his untimely injuries Kovalev may have killed him in the ring if he had been the one instead to fight him in his final fight.

Anyway tell me what you all think personally I think it's a crying shame this never happened when they were both on top.

I would've bet on Kov had they fought. Seems Adonis did everything to avoid the bout.

I thought Kovalev but it was no formality which is the most frustrating thing. Stevenson was a great fighter in his own right.

Kovalev had too much for Stevenson.

Absolutely. Adonis would mos def be a live dog. I wonder if he allowed some of the Kov hype to seep in and get to him.

Definitely a winnable fight for him back in 2013/14.

When kov first won the title off cleverly and a few performances after, he’d of destroyed Adonis imo. For a few years no one could’ve touched him

I don’t necessarily think Kovalev would have been able to circle Stevenson’s left hand a whole 12 rds. Stevenson was a good underrated counter puncher and Kovalev on the attack would have left his chin vulnerable. That said Stevenson didn’t seem to have as much confidence in himself and swerved around every credible fighter at 175 during his reign.

Kovalev on the attack was a fighter making the most of his range and fighting behind a jab. Kovalev doesn't throw the wild hooks that Stevenson is used to countering.

In their respective primes? Kovalev all day. Stevenson had really good power in his left, but his title reign was one of the weakest consistently over a sustained period that I can remember.

Never understood why he waited so long to start making some meaningful defenses, but he got found out when he did. Granted he wasnt young.

Krusher, easily, by swift and brutal annihilation.

Of all Boone's sons, Adonis was the weak link. Sergey & Andre >>>>

Prime killer Kovalev had the range and skill advantage, and let his hands go with confidence, so I back him to land the raking RH before Stevenson landed his left.
But Buddy Kovalev fighting point style with a middle-age engine would be in a lot of danger.

I would have favored Kovalev in his prime 65/35
