Robinson beats everyone in 2021 at welter and light middle. Probably beats most of the middleweights too even if he wanted to weigh in at 150.
I wouldn’t call him a master at everything. He wasn’t a very good infighter, for instance. Not great defensively, either. Good, not great. He was a very good outboxer, but he never struck me as a master technician. He was tall, used a very good jab, and was exceptionally graceful on his feet. Not much beyond that in the pure boxing sense, though that typically did him well enough. He was a master at instantly breaking rhythm from rangy boxing to explosive combination punching. That was another aspect made possible by his great feet. And his combination punching in full swing was unparalleled by anyone, ever.
Fighters from today are much more explosive and athletic and punch way more tight and sharp and these are all vital aspects
I do agree especially with the defense, people don't seem to mention that he did get hit quite a bit, I watched one of his fights not long ago and whilst he wasn't getting hit with huge punches, he was getting hit quite a bit
This content is protected There you go. It took me all of 10 seconds. Try Google sometime. It works a treat.
Robinson was more skilled than Leonard and Jones, they were just great athletes, Manny had more flaws than Ray. Tyson was better at getting into positions where he could throw shots but Ray was far better at getting those shots off from good positions.
Ray was a better combo puncher than any fighter in history, Spence doesn`t punch correctly and is very stiff, Bud is far nearer to Ray`s level but lacks his craft, he would toy with the rest of the welters fighting today, tame bunch.
Something that would bother Ray in today's world... When he fought, you stayed sharp by fighting a lot. The only way you get sharp and stay sharp is by fighting. Today everyone needs an 8-10 week "camp" to prepare for a fight. This is because they (1)have to lose a bunch of weight, (2)have to re learn the basics of boxing that they haven't paid attention to since the fight a year ago and (3)go hard in sparring for 3 weeks to get th heir timing back.
The first two things you named are not skills/techniques. They’re also false statements, as those are all completely individual qualities. You’re relying on the “modern is better because of science” argument instead of relying on what your eyes actually tell you. The next two things you mentioned are pure fantasy. Even more so than the first two. And entirely subjective. Also fairly irrelevant. Again, it all comes entirely down to the individual. Which current fighters are more explosive and athletic than Robinson?
