The most underrated fighter on here is without a doubt Nigel Benn, for whatever reason, he always gets dismissed in matchups, most people were picking Sergiy ****ing Derevyanchenko to beat him I am going to debunk a few myths on here that I see Nigel Benn has a weak chin: Benn was only ever dropped by Michael Watson who was a big puncher and Gerald McClellan and you all rate the G-Man on here don’t you? Benn took huge punches off huge puncher Eubank and never went down Benn had a terrible defence and is 1 dimensional: Benn after getting dropped heavily against McClellan showed great head movement and was also able to move backwards away from the bombs of McClellan And finally what I want to say the most, why don’t people rate him? He beat Barkley inside 1 round and everyone rates him on here, he beat Eubank in the 2nd fight, he also knocked out Gerald McClellan people on here seem to pick him to beat Hearns, but seem to think that Hearns destroys Benn Why is Benn completely disregarded on here? I personally have him in my top 10 middleweights of all time and I see not reason to not have him there
He was never ranked pound for pound and he was never the best fighter in his division. Most of the other fighters that get discussed in detail here were.
Plenty of them were never ranked number 1 in the division that are talked about on here, also Benn was in one of the hardest divisions ever for middleweight and super middleweight, surely you can’t hold it against him that Toney, Roy Jones and people like that were in the divisions? Most people also picking Tony Sibson to beat Benn, surely not?
Interesting that you mention Sibson, could never have been number one because of Hagler. Just as Benn had Jones. So they're about the same class, yeah. So it's hard to know what you are claiming for him here. You think he's clearly better than Frankie Fletcher, Michael Watson, Rubern Carter etc.?
Tony sibson never beat anyone even of Iran Barkley’s level, Sibson was European level, he is nowhere near the level of Benn
Well Sibson was ranked the world's best middleweight contender, or the second best, I can't remember which it was. So it's pretty clear that any underrating that's being done in this thread is of Sibson by you. I think it's true that Sibson never beat anyone as good as the blade though.
Maybe he was but nobody else done that to him, that's why it was his last fight. It was only 3 months after the Hamsho fight.
Yeah, but Minter did take punishment in his career especially is the Hagler fight and it doesn’t have an effect straight away, but when you get to 30 it starts to quickly become apparent, like with Saad Muhammad, he aged overnight when he was nearing 30
You make it sound bad, he wasn’t the best in his country only because there happened to be someone called Chris Eubank who is one of the best middleweights and super middleweights of all time and Benn was ahead in the first fight and should’ve won the second fight
Benn was dropped by Anthony Logan, Doug DeWitt, as well as G-Man, Watson and getting stopped by Eubank. Yeah, Benn wasn't quite so dimensional as people make out. He had a few tricks up his sleeve. I don't see why those two wins make him a top ten middleweight. I don't see why those two wins make him a top fifty middleweight (even if both were actually at that weight). McClellan is overrated beyond belief, who didn't accomplish much outside of KOing an aging Jackson whom he out-weighed massively, and beat up a shot John Mugabi. Furthermore, Barkley was nothing overly special either. Not only was the guy coming off back to back losses to Nunn and Duran (a 38 year old lightweight), he has virtually no top wins vs anybody not named Tommy Hearns.
I didn’t think it was even possible to have such an opinion. He fought 4 good fighters at Middleweight and went 2-2 against them.
