That's not the point re Mayweather.. He was old that's why he was "chosen". And it's very arguable he was not prime here.

Yes Thurman cherrypicked Pacquiao and it backfired. That's what you get.

It's obviously Canelo right now no matter who you think is the better fighter. What you've accomplished as a fighter has to weigh heavily and what Canelo did in 2020 was special

If Crawford had at any time fought anyone as dangerous as 36 year old Mayweather (past his prime but still better than the rest of the pack) or GGG then there would be more of an argument.

As it is he's just done less and continues to do less. I'd rather give honors to someone who is staying active and making fights happen.

I agree Crawford has done far less but I don't see how Canelo's landslide loss to Mayweather factors in

Nahh, Crawford needs to fight better competition at 147. Canelo has crafted his career much like Floyd. Saunders is a fraud. He milked his title reign and talks constantly. Canelo fighting Smith and Kov wasn't facing the very best. He and other champs have always picked on the weakest champ.

My point is that while you can always criticize matchmaking, at least twice Canelo ran right after very hard matchups, moving up in weight or facing a much feared opponent.

He lost to Mayweather, and even if he lost to GGG twice (which isn't how I see it), he lost doing something Crawford hasn't done. Crawford hasn't pushed himself that like that.

I don't know if that's being fair considering Canelo took on Mayweather at his original weight class where as it feels like your disregarding what crawford did below 147. It also took canelo quite a while to fight ggg, and by all accounts crawford is pursuing the spence fight. I agree it's all about what you do but I think were confusing desire with opportunity here

I think, at least until the top fighters around welter begin to sort out amongst themselves a real pecking order, it's difficult to look past the obvious three of Canelo, Usyk and Inoue. I'm edging towards Canelo, despite my deep dislike of him. Bringing up fights from five years ago isn't helpful - if we can call on a fighter's boxing record then Pacquiao is the clear P4P. Say what you like about Callum Smith, he was an undefeated champion and he got trounced. Canelo looked unbeatable that night, frankly, and it's difficult to say who has a chance of beating him if he stays around middle/super middle.
