I can definitely envision Hagler stopping anyone. The small amount of fighters that he had issues with, he showed clearly who was the better man the next time around. Duran would have been a dead man in a rematch imo. Thing about Hagler was that he wasn't a fast twitch KO artist but he was very heavy handed and he wore his opponents completely out.
Hagler was brutally tough, willful and could dominate in the trenches when he chose to, but that doesn't make this fight Ward vs Gatti 1. Hagler's ability to circle away in either direction while shooting hard, straight punches leading with either hand would allow him to dictate the terms of engagement, wear down Golovkin over many rounds trading to advantage and then stepping out and away. Maybe it would end up a UD, but Hagler was not a fan of decisions, so he'd probably stop Gennady late. Prime for prime it might look alot like a more aesthetically pleasing Hagler vs Mugabi imo. Yes, GGG is probably more skilled than that peak Mugabi but that was not a prime Hagler, so in my mind it kinda lends legitimacy to the comparison.
Mugabi was a crude fighter with huge gaps in his skill set. He was a huge puncher but was often off balance and didn’t know how to clinch. Some would say he didn’t need to until he faded Hagler but he’s nothing like GGG. GGG has a great jab, can clinch and is a much better technical boxer than Mugabi. I like Hagler in this matchup but it’s a brutal one. GGG is a more precise puncher than the Beast and has a much better assortment of punches. I loved Mugabi back in the day but his style was so raw and limited.
Hagler UD ggg leaves with his face rearranged. Hagler was better offensively, defensively, beats ggg to the punch every time, quicker feat, better punch variety, better work rate and a shitload more experience against top operators
you can't use this kind of 'logic'. every fighter has one or more poor performances/'kryptonite fights'.
Hagler was just too good for GGG. It is a different level and I know people will disagree with me. Hagler was southpaw who switched well and a good boxer with a good jab and 75 inch reach.. He would control GGG and break him down similar to how he broke down Sibson and I don't think GGG would hit him much. 7th or 8th round knockout for Marvin.
GGG had a better jab than anybody Hagler fought including Leonard and Hearns cause Tommy didn`t get enough jabs off before being stopped and neither did Ray, GGG would display a better work-rate v Hagler tan Leonard did.
Beats GGG to the punch everytime yet didn`t beat a number of his world title oppositiin to the punch everytime, he didn`t beat Mugabi to the punch everytime so why would he beat a highly skilled fighter like GG to the punch everytime, Hagler hands weren`t quicker than Canelo`s.
