I read this reply on a thread about Hagler v GGG: What war?? ''Ggg couldn't even have a war with former 147 Canelo ''
I felt it was unfair to CAnelo`s power, so how does Canelo`s power compare to the power of Hagler`s opposition?

That reply has to be from 22JM. Nobody else is that ****in stupid.

Obviously Hearns hit harder, so did Roldan, Parker, Sibson, Lee and Mugabi. Canelo obviously isn't on their level for power. He's probably a little above Vito, Minter, Duran and Scypion.

Well...Canelo might be 20 lbs heavier than the average Hagler opponent.

I honestly think Canelo is probably as hard a hitter as anybody Hagler faced bar maybe Hearns, Roldan and Mugabi. Let's not forget he's a 175lb fighter in there and he has a 62% KO rate.

What about Cyclone Hart? He's like his era's (better, IMO) version of Darnell Boone. Absolutely collosal puncher, and honestly, arguably as one of the hardest in MW history. I think I can recall Russell (?) calling him the hardest pure puncher he'd seen.

Seeing as how Hagler had damn near 70 opponents, I would find this difficult to assess.

Canelo does not really have one punch power to me, but for consistently landing hard/heavy/clean shots throughout a fight I think he rates higher than anyone on Hagler’s resume

You think he ranks above Duran for clean punching?

Against poor opponents in a tragic era. He didn’t land much at all on an ancient Mayweather.

at 160? Absolutely! Also we were talking in regard to power I believe? Canelo throws consistently thudding blows throughout, but I don’t consider him a power puncher in regard to one shot power etc. I find him akin to Marciano (just to derail the conversation lol) and JCC in this regard. Consistent heavy shots from start to finish.

I'd absolutely rate Canelo higher than Duran for pure power at 154+, but I was just wondering whether or not you'd rate him above Duran for the clean punching part of 'hard/heavy/clean'. For me, Duran is one of the very best ever at setting up punches and landing them exactly how he wants. The KDs of Barkley and Moore being examples.

I certainly agree that Canelo (particularly this version who's heavier and fighting more mobile opponents, rather than the slick counter-puncher who fought GGG on the front and back foot) has a heavier dig, and more thudding power, but didn't know if you were saying that he's better than all of Hagler's opponents at all three, or a combination of them together.

I meant it as a combination of consistent clean/hard/heavy rather than 3 separate areas. And I probably should have said as high or on par with rather than higher.

Hearns hurt Hagler with a right hand at the start of 'the war' and went on to land 5 devastating straight rights flush on Marvin in Rd 1 of that bout, Hearns was landing savage shots in the bout with pin point accuracy.
