The 1920s' FOTYs MAY reflect the mediocrity of the times (for heavyweights at least)

Sure, there were also gruelling wars... I never claimed, or even suggested, otherwise!

But what about the hundreds of fights that also took place, where both participants were thrown out for not trying... that doesn't bother you at all?

Hundreds? How many cases of this happening in the decade in question have you found?

You could equally argue that them getting thrown out for not trying shows that that behaviour was not accepted, and that they had to fight to their best ability.

No one who talks to me like that deserves to live - so here's what's gonna happen:

I will find out where you live, stalk you, follow you to a parking lot, where I will grab you and lock you in my van. From there I will drive you to a remote area, an area most known for its remoteness... and there I will bury you in a very, very VERY deep grave.

I think you have to consider when the Ring magazine started 1922, it was of course at the start a wrestling and boxing magazine so it not unreasonable to think that the golden boy across all sports Dempsey was included so often in FOTY lists, he was a hero to the majority, so them playing to their subscribers likes across boxing/wrestling community was sound business decision.

Yeah, I know - which is why i was sure, that you, probably more than anyone, would appreciate this joke.

I took it for granted (wrongly?) that you would be familiar with Norm Macdonald's greatest stand-up skit, and therefore get the joke - but if that's not the case, you need to take a look at this:
