Marciano is one of the all time pound for pound punchers.

So I guess that takes Williams power down a few notches too.

Rex Layne said Louis hit him harder than Marciano. He only did an exhibition with an old Louis and Rocky ko'd him,the point being you give these quotes the credence you think they deserve.Unless of course your on the ropes and you need a ko to win,lol

I personally think the arguments in regards to power at that level are overdone and really a nonissue. If you have KO power you have KO power. Both were obviously strong enough to knock a man cold. But one was far better at delivering that power then the other. Style to me is more important then say “who hit harder”. Style and game plan is more likely to determine the winner.

No doubt .. Tex Cobb once told me a story and he said there is pretty much only so hard a man can hit ... he said Norton once hit him as hard as Earnie Shavers hit him ... the difference was Shavers hit him that hard every time he landed and Norton did only once ..

As I have found just from mentioning one of his opponents in a thread.

Do you think a fully developed young man of over 200lb, who is already knocking men out, who already has the athletic knack of turning his weight into his arms with the fullest snap and reactions of youth...actually starts hitting harder the older he gets?

indeed. all very interesting. I imagine this really was their opinion.

I guess Louis must have said that. Do you know when he said that?

you won’t get any attack from me. I come in peace.

    It appears it would.

well I guess it would be for Rex to decide. He must have felt the potential in Louis even though he never went over against him. We can see Rex gave Rocky a fair tussle until he was laid flat. Perhaps until Rex Layne was knocked senseless by Rocky Louis had appeared heavier handed?

I agree wholeheartedly with this. Kayo power is kayo power. The better puncher is the one who is the deliverer of knockouts at highest level because He’s always more potent than a guy who hits just as hard but can’t nail good fighters.
that’s an opinion of course, rather than a fact, but I will accept you believe this.

I believe that a prime Williams who was quicker, more muscular, more experienced, more developed, and heavier hit harder than the younger, undeveloped teenager who fought Simmons.

Nice try, but here's what I actually said.

You deliberately edited my quote to concoct a misleading narrative.

So Williams got quicker as he got older?

Most punchers use the speed of youth to snap with a punch. To explode. As with all athletes, They can more coordinately extend and recoil faster and more athletically than they ever will in the future. Especially big powerful youths like Williams. And Mike Tyson.

As they get older the same result is achieved by Slowing up and sitting down on a timed punch. Pulling the trigger on a precise incoming target. Same result. Same impact. Slower process.

Not that The muscles have much to do with it. But Williams was already an impressive specimen at the young age in much the way Tyson and Joe Louis were. It’s well documented.

it wasn’t like Williams was Charles hawtrey getting sand kicked in his face. He was ripped when Satterfeild popped him.

But for an example consider the knockouts by Tyson at 19 years of age.

Glad you came in peace .. I enjoy your posts and you're a knowledgable guy ... I will try and look into where I read the Louis comment but I do clearly remember it .. He was very impressed with Satterfield's rate power .. of course that does not mean he thought Satterfield would beat Rocky , just that out of two murderous sluggers he thought Satterfield had an edge.

I’m a bit late but we got it to 9 pages to match the last exact same thread from a couple of weeks back.

The suspense was killing me but I knew we could do it even with a couple of bans. Proud of everyone!
