Duran put a move on Thorn I’ve never seen anyone do in a live fight.

He threw a right hand intended to miss that floated over Paul’s head while Thorn was on the ropes. The right hand looped to Thorn’s right shoulder, and Duran then turned him (pulling his right hand across his body while grasping the shoulder) and hit him with a left.

I briefly met Thorn a time or two when he was boxing, he drove a couple hours to the gym I was at to spar. Nice guy. Has had a pretty good career as a singer-songwriter.

I’ll also point out that Michael Grant played the piano (which HBO harped on quite a bit to try to point him as a Renaissance man).

 

Joe Frazier had a singing "career" on the side for many years.

I've seen pictures of Tommy Hearns singing in a recording studio, although I've never heard the results.

 

I bet he sure was not recording "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies.

I saw that performance live on the Hollywood Palace RM...I liked it...I thought Terrell was good. He had musical talent.

 

He's a man that's full of ****. If you bring out some crack, he'll take a hit. He was certain to fly so high in the sky.

 

Actually it was JEAN Terrell of The Supremes who was Ernie's sister. Tammi (no relation) was Bob Montgomery's niece.

 

The young Cassius Clay did a pretty good version of Stand By Me on his 1963 album 'I'm The Greatest'

With all due respect, I read an article I believe from 1977, in the article, Ernie had stated that when his sister Tammi died from a brain tumor just before the title unification bout against Muhammad Ali on Feb 6 1967, he entered the bout distracted because of her death. He further stated that it really bothered him that Ali was laughing at him throughout the 15 rounds.

 

One side of a story though, Tammi Terrell real last name was Montgomery , she wasn't related to Earnie Terrell. I've watched the Ali vs Terrell fight, I don't recall Ali laughing at Terrell, though he was vengeful, and a little sadistic.
The Terrell fight was the only fight I saw Ali in where if the opponent died, he may have been OK with.
But Terrell should've repected Ali's name change, and not continued with the Cassius Clay nonsense prior to the fight. Sometimes one can bring a bad beating on oneself.
