It was a technical masterclass by Hagler. He famously said that, after the third, (The only round that Tony won), he just started "Dipping into my toolbox", and that's what it looks like. It was one of those nights when an elite sportsman gets it all right. Marvin has been asked about this performance dozens of times over the years and never does he make reference to anything specific that he'd worked on. It's like his talent just took over and he wasn't even thinking about it. What surprises me even more is that Marvin has always said how Sibbo genuinely hurt him in the third yet this was his response. Poor Tony !
Hamsho was a beast .. very underrated these days as he was so strong .. Sibson was a better puncher and faster but Hamsho was as tough as they come .. he beat up a young Czyz, dominated and started the fall of Benitez although his win over Minter was razor thin ..
I have no doubt Hamsho was the better opponent. I was in the audience for most of those wins. Hamsho should be in the HOF. But, Hagler had his best fight vs. Sibson.
Hamsho was the tougher, more durable guy ... no knock on Sibson who was extremely strong and tough, a harder and faster puncher but Hamsho was a mauler with an incredible chin, strength and stamina .. kinda like a Fuller type ... I was watching all those 80's fights too .. they were all televised and events to watch .. real grind them out, pound them out fights .. some thought he'd be Golden Boy (at the time) Czyz's coming out opponent till he beat Bobby up ... before that he beat the undefeated Scypion who had a name after his tragic victory over Classen, he beat a very tough Curtis Parker and former champ Minter by razor thin tough decisions ... Hamsho was a courageous, tough as nails bruiser ...
Those were the days my friend. I thought they'd never end. How wrong I was. Now that it is 2021 and US boxing and boxing ov erall is a wasteland, those goods times live now only in my memory.
You can't explain to someone from the last 35 yrs or so how it was. It's impossible for them to see what was lost. No insult to them intended.

Hagler’s most complete performance without a doubt. Sometimes people forget just how skilled a technician he really is. IMO Sugar Ray Leonard would not have stood a chance against this Hagler. One could have imagined how this Hagler would have done against Leonard before he slowed down.
That may not be necessarily true, to me it seemed as though he sometimes wanted to be cute in there and out box the boxer.
I see so many on this sit of the opinion " Ray Leonard " would've NEVER have fought Hagler in his prime ". That's one of the biggest crock of BS I've seen on this site. Leonard prior to the eye injury had Hagler in his sights as early as 1981 before the Hearns fight. In fact , he invited Hagler to that big overblown will he retire? Or will he not ? Stunt he pulled ( Which, was an extremely bad move on his part and he came off as a pompous ass, he lost many fans because of it) Leonard was an adrenaline junkie a lot like Ali. He believed he'd beat any man in a boxing ring, yes that included Marvin Hagler. Let's stop with the revionist history of Leonard wouldn't have fought Hagler in his prime nonsense. Leonard was a competitor, if their was no eye injury, and his issues because of it, that fight comes off as early as late 1982, early 83. Leonard was many things, but he wasn't a coward. It's OK to praise the greatness of Hagler without denigrating "Sugar" Ray Leonard as many of you do.
