Wilder really loads his right hand up when he throws it where Joshua tends not to over commit on that shot. Even when Joshua has his opponents hurt he doesn’t commit the way wilder does. Different approach really. I think Wilder has the harder single shot but Joshua would hit harder with everything else except the straight right I reckon.
Well, if you are talking about who hits harder against tomato cans, has beens and old men, it's Wilder. If you are talking about who hits harder against top level boxers with the ability to take a punch, it's Joshua.
The Joshua vs Breazele fight did go 7 rounds but watching that I kinda felt Joshua could of stopped him when he wanted really. He was in no danger whatsoever at any point.
I'm not late to this topic in terms of posts, but I'm already late. It's been said. DWs single right shot is harder than what AJ has. However AJ has it all over Wilder in combos, overall technique. What about, maybe for another thread, which has the better punch resistance?
Wilder right from mid-range to long-range most likely is the hardest punch from either guy. BUT Wilder cannot really fight on the inside whereas AJ can shorten his punches and still KO you (see Povetkin). If you asked me who has the single hardest punch, it would be Wilder. If you asked me who is the better puncher, it would be AJ.
Punch for punch I think AJ does. I also expect his punches wear you down more over the course of the fight. I also think hes more effective at imposing his power, on average. But the way Wilder loads up on his right hand, I think when he lands that at full extension mortal kombat fatality, I would imagine its more powerful than AJs best punch.
I think everyone knows Wilder has a more powerful RH. Joshua may well have a more powerful LHook, though, due to his technique. As for the jab, I would lean towards Wilder based only on the fact Fury was apparently surprised by the power of it, and Davison alluded that it was comparable to Wlad's in that regard. People talk about AJ having a better delivery system for his punches, but Wilder has faster hands, which is part of the delivery. And he can punch short too, like the short counters on Pole and Ortiz near the ropes that were decisive. So not sure AJ has all the advantage there. Wilder could definitely snipe AJ and he can take more damage in a shoot-out, so I don't know why people claim AJ would just walk through him with his better overall skills. Wilder has shown by now he can take out fighters with more refined skills than himself.
Wilder got outjabbed by Gerald Washington and had a lot of trouble with Molina. He was also desperate against Ortiz. Aj would destroy Wilder. Wilder fights on the backpedel and he can't really even do it very effectively against world class fighters. Joshua would pressure Wilder like he done Breazeale and Parker and then he'd get wilder on the ropes and go to work.
People make him into a cartoon character, his full extension right hand power is overhyped but the rest of what he does to work around that asset doesn't get enough credit. His weird style is well adapted to maximize what he does well. I'd be interested to see what AJ could do if he adopted similar mechanics.
