Josh Kelly was brutally exposed last night against a fighter many on here thought he would beat. I wasnt one of them and picked on here for Avanesyan to stop him in the 9th. What does he need to do to comeback and make the most of his strengths? For me it is as clear as night and day that this ambush power punching Adam Booth style isnt working for him. He doesnt have the power, or the reflexes. He needs a new trainer, to teach him how to consistently use his jab and fight and defend on the inside. To maximise his superb foot movement and his great jab that he doesnt use enough or vary enough. The good news is that at 26 he is young enough to have another go. But he needs to make big changes and be open to learning and changing his style. Also does this raise questions about Adam Booth as a trainer too? So many British fighters have taken a Big L in recent weeks.
I don’t think he was brutally exposed. His limitations showed, yes but Avenasyan is no mug. Anyone who thought he was going to go on to world level because of 3 left hooks in a row against a journeyman is an idiot.
Not a great two weeks for Eddie! Brutally exposed is harsh though, everyone knew what a tough fight this was going to be and fair play to him for taking it. Like has been said Booth’s style doesn’t really seem to suit him, doesn’t carry enough power to fight that way. I’d love to see the Benn fight next, think that’d be a lot closer now than we all thought 6-12 months ago..
First few rounds looked great but was boy against man in there. Hate all flashy **** if u cant back it up he couldn't needed that show him his level tbh
Josh Kelly wasn’t exposed his coach was, if Josh would of kept to his old style fast jab and kept the distance get in then out rather than staying there with a puncher he could of nicked it on points the way Booth had him fighting was madness
Shave his beard off. Stop showing off. Box to his strengths instead of trying to be a mini Haye/Groves.
Seems pretty simple to me...he should hopefully realise that he has a massive amount of talent but that he is not a prime Roy Jones or pernell whittaker and he shouldnt pretend he is ...put your ****in hands up..stop posing and when your catching punches on the chin stop acting to the judges and the crowd like you slipped them....your not fooling anyone except matchroom shills. Hopefully this humbling will do him a world of good....go back to the drawing board.... ascertain if he can still make this weight comfortably or whether he is just putting his body through the ringer to get down to it...if he is..move him up and go back to British level. And if he's dead set in his ..hands down reflex style...he's going no where
