I sense their will be a lot of hate mentioning Monzon and Canelo in the same class, But i think Monzon would stop him late personally but I would just like to hear peoples opinions on this avoid angry discussion if possible. 15rds Prime for prime.

I don’t think Monzon would stop him over 12...perhaps over 15? Either way Monzon should win this

True enough, i mean i have seen people be **** on over making fantasy bouts with fighters in seemingly two diffrent classes and it is silly.
I think Canelo would survive a 12RD fight but he does not make it past the championship rounds he does not lack a chin or defensive ability it is him seemingly taking so many breaks in a round that suggests his endurance is not perfect and will be his undoing against Carlos.

I do think that back in the days of Carlos Monzon's championship title reign, 1970-1977, the title bouts were the 15 round limit. Oscar De La Hoya would not have been able to buy Tito Lectoure, Monzon's manager. Also the fact that Carlos fought primarily in Europe, Monte Carlo, Monaco, Rome, Italy, and Paris, France, where he was loved by the fans. The taxes in the U. S. venues were too high. Very rarely did he defend in Luna Park. The taller, leaner Carlos would employ a hard long left jab , setting up his counter right hands to his opponents head and body, as Monzon sets a steady pace. Canelo shorter than his long armed adversary, will have a hard time getting past the left jab of Carlos, constantly getting tagged by the jarring right hand that has produced 61 KO's in a career that began in 1963.I see Carlos scoring a stoppage in round 13 as Alvarez runs out of gas against an opponent that was a pack of cigarettes a day smoker.. Carlos was 89-3-9, 61 KO's, retired as champion, 14 title defenses, undefeated in his last 82 fights, dating back to Oct 9 1964.

    Great post Richard.

Canelo will have his moments with his superb handspeed and combination punching. I could see Canelo winning a few rounds and beating Monzzon to the punch with his lightning hands.

However, as you stated, Monzon will control the distance with his jab and powerful rights. Monzon has superior stamina. Even if they fought a 12 rounder, Monzon would be able to maintain an amazing workrate while Canelo often fights in spurts. Monzon is too good.

If Canelo is given a gift draw vs an aging Golovkin and the fact that he barely won the rematch vs a past it GGG, well, it shows that Canelo is very good but not great. Let's not forget how Canelo's team ran a mile from GGG while the later was in his prime.

Monzon tko 13 in a 15 rounder, and Monzon UD 12 in a 12 rounder.

Monzon would dominate, only question is if he would get the stoppage

Having watched a couple of Monzon fights recently here's my take: Monzon is big and rangy and never gets tired and hits very hard. He has a punishing jab. He would make Alvarez work every second of every minute of every round and Canelo has not ever displayed that kind of stamina. In close I could see Canelo having some success cause' he's become elusive and tricky and quick and he has power, but all Monzon has to do is disengage and go back to the jab with the right hand behind it. There would be little Canelo could do. Monzon by late stoppage.

Monzon stops him in 12 only to lose a majority decision.
