I was going to do a post on who should Timbo Slice fight after Dennis Hogan but it's probably worth considering now. Even if the Dennis Hogan fight goes ahead, Junior is still light on for experience when compared with Castano & Charlo. Instead of challenging for a world title next up, I think they should play the long game & look to get Timmy Tool Train another half dozen fights. Guys I'd like to see him face: Wale Omotoso - I've always wanted to see Junior in with him. Very experienced pro who has only ever been stopped once. Last start by Castano so comparisons could be drawn with how Junior fares. Austin Trout - Another shopworn guy but with enough experience & talent to teach Junior a thing or two. That's who Junior should be facing I reckon - blokes with enough experience & capability to teach him something. Charles Hatley - Has been out to Australia before & is in the same category as above. If they don't want to play the long game, they could go straight to: Liam Smith - Former WBO Jr Middle champ who remains high in the WBO rankings. He'd be a very tough fight for Junior & potentially better than anyone else Junior has faced to this point. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - I mentioned this bloke as an opponent a while back & Sparta reckoned he would send Junior back to daddy. I hope that's not the case b/c he lost to Castano in that Super Series tournament in which case what will Castano do to Junior? Send him home to mum? If they can't bring anyone into the country, there's still another couple of guys worth facing here: Daniel Lewis - How do you prepare for a guy with nearly 200 amateur fights and significant international experience under his belt (Castano)? How about by facing a bloke with 150 who has fought at both Commonwealth & Olympic games? Michael Zerafa - Can't face him next b/c of other commitments. When they're done, surely he comes into the frame as a worthwhile opponent? Good fighter, good fight. I'd like to see a mixture of those guys in with Junior before they put him in with Castano or Charlo. Guys like Liam Smith & Sergiy Derevyanchenko would be very tough fights for him but that's what's needed to prepare him to face the best. No shortcuts!
