The WBC created the Franchise Title and awarded it to Canelo, as a result the MW Titles Canelo won were fought for and won by other fighters. Remember first he was stripped of the IBF, which created a rift between Canelo and Golden Boy :

    https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/27311629/canelo-unaware-deal-cost-ibf-title-belt

Canelo claimed he was unaware of the deal that resulted in him being stripped. Given what happened to the IBF, and his intentions to compete at 168, he likely would have vacated the other MW 2 titles (WBC and WBA) had he not been awarded the Franchise Champion. Now you may think this is a laughingstock, but compare this to Mayweather holding the 154-lb division hostage for 2 years after he beat Canelo. That was the official World Title and Mayweather was able to hold on to it without fighting above 147 between 2013-2015 until he retired. Mayweather was not forced to defend his 154-lb titles against a Mandatory or vacate the title during that time. On the other hand, Canelo had his IBF stripped due to some deal between DiBella and Golden Boy that he had no knowledge of.

Who could forget when GGG said Give me my belt and the WBC gave Canelo a 15-day timetable, which was inconsistent with historical norms. At 168, he isn't the Franchise Champion so he has mandatories like any normal World Title Holder. This is his mandatory. If you're upset at the WBC for creating the Franchise Title, then OK but he has not been given the same preferential treatment as Mayweather. In fact it's the opposite. He's forced to defend against Mandatories, and has been stripped if he doesn't comply with stricter rules about title defenses than other fighters.

He's his mandatory. It's a fact. If you have issues with the WBC then great, remember when GGG said Give me my belt and the WBC gave Canelo a 15-day timetable. If anything the WBC owes Canelo since that farce.

Dont believe a word the ginger headed cheater says. BUT when you look
at your post you are agreeing with me that Mayweather & Canelo between them have destroyed boxing. No one believes its a legit sport any more its on a par with pro wrestling to the casual fan just entertainment with scripted pre arranged results. Who can really blame them?

They "let" him and Cotto defend the MW title at 155? Why wouldn't they? MW has a 160 lb limit, that means anything below 160 is acceptable. What Cotto did to Geale was wrong, he deserves criticism for that. Why? Because Geale was a natural Middleweight! Draining him to 157 or whatever that was was wrong. Canelo on the other hand fighting Khan at 155 is totally different as Khan was a welterweight moving up in weight, where a 155 catchweight makes sense. Canelo was doing Khan a favor by agreeing to that weight. Unlike GGG who made Brook go up all the way to 160. GGG was much more of a weight bully to Brook than Canelo was to Khan.

I agree with you in regards to Mayweather and what happened with the 154-lb titles. Canelo has never gotten that kind of preferential treatment that Mayweather got.
