I agree with this but can see why a fighter would want the rematch. It's up to his team to advise him not to jump straight back in with Lara but it may well be the case that Warrington doesn't listen and demands that rematch.
I think there's a danger of people getting carried away here, people were saying exactly the same thing about Joshua after Ruiz Jnr 1. It's not a forgon conclusion that Warrington will lose again, it's a tough ask but Lara isn't unbeatable
Ruiz was a unified world heavyweight champion.. made sense for AJ to get his belts back. All Warrington gets by rematching and beating Lara is pride. It's high risk and low reward.
True.. Warren saying 'everything went wrong'. That means there's a lot of room for improvement. Same as there was with Joshua. Josh took a lot of flush punches, he decided to trade so many times as if he was invincible. Crazy how it went 9 rounds really. Had he just taken a few steps back he'd have seen 12 rounds. A rematch would be intriguing.. hope it happens.
After hand-picking Sofiane Takoucht for his final world title fight, Warrington didn't box for 16 months. It's not a foregone conclusion that Warrington will box again.
Well it’s the redemption angle which makes the fight an easy sell, plus the view that winning a rematch automatically quashes the original defeat and the home fighter can carry on from where they left off. Plus if the worse happens and said random away fighter happens to win again, you’ve probably by this point got options on a bit of a ‘boogeyman’ who becomes a credible opponent (and PPV undercard filler) for your other fighters around that weight. Absolute joke like, but it’s basically just a safety clause Matchroom seem to have all the time now really.
On the back of 3 tough fights. His not the only champion whos done that. As for 16 months out theirs alot been going on in the world if u hadn't noticed. As for retiring come on his lost and got stopped its not the end of the world. He will b back out later in the year. Will b interesting to see who against.
Ive read a statement this morning that Warrington has said if he can’t beat Lara he will retire. Interesting way to look at it and its an easy sell and a Saturday night fight night.
I think if he doesn't fight lara people will say his avoiding him and it will always be a ?. So he may aswell fight him sink or swim.
I understand Warrington wanting to get a rematch to prove it was just a bad night at the office but his team need to properly evaluate what went wrong. Is it weight making ? Was there something in the build up ? Lack of activity? I am sure they will be aware of things we are not. Josh could do a hit and move routine a la AJ v Ruiz 2 and grind out a points job or see if Lara runs out of ideas by round 8 and then get a bit adventurous ? I know the general feeling is that Lara is a slow footed novice who got lucky but my opinion is there are some fighters who might look poor but have an innate ability to hit the target with decent punches and get the job done. I haven’t watched any of Lara’s other fights so maybe the Warrington victory flattered him ? Nevertheless I agree somewhat with Frank Warren’s assessment .
