As for prime Kov vs Clenelo. Well, firstly it would never happen in a million years because, duh, obviously the later wouldn't go anywhere near that version of Kovalev for all the money in the world. I mean we're talking about someone who had a specially designed Kazakhstani-proof state of the art electrified chicken coop built to hide out in and created their own weight class to shamelessly duck a closer to prime GGG and who was getting thoroughly outboxed by the old shot drunk still concussed Kovalev he cherrypicked for the vast majority of the fight until the drunk's six-round vodka tank inevitably and predictably depleted and he ran out of gas for goodness sake. Use you freaking brain

But for the sake of argument let's pretend that there is some other alternate dimension out there where Clenelo could be tempted out of the coop to face off against a prime Kovalev.

Hahahaha that's a funny one. Canelo ate GGG's jabs like skittles, GGG got the beating of his lifetime. The level of delusion on here in regards to Canelo and GGG never ceases to amaze me.

Yup he was a giant, but he clearly doesn't have the boxing skills of GGG or Kovalev. Doesn't know how to jab, block, use his size, reach advantge, etc. Smith was hyped a lot on here before the Ryder match, but he turned out to be disappointing. Canelo schooled that dude.

I don't know what happened to Callum Smith. But the version who fought Canelo would be destroyed by Prime Kovalev. By destroyed I don't know if that means he'd be stopped or not because Smith clearly has a granite chin. Though the question becomes was Callum Smith a better fighter a few years back than he was vs Ryder or Canelo? Did he become worse? And if that's the case then you could argue he's not Prime anymore as has been argued for Kovalev. But the difference is that while Kovalev has become more chinny than Smith, he seems to have retained much of his speed / skills that he had in his prime.

If we're to compare Prime Kovlaev, before Ward lets say, before he bacame chinny, to current Callum Smith, or to Callum Smith maybe when he looked better a few years back, then who knows. I guess the other side of the coin is who would win now - current Kovalev vs current Callum Smith, that's a more apt comparison. Could Callum Smith hurt Kovalev, does he have the power? Or was it just a bad styles matchup for Callum Smith against Ryder and Canelo, and would he match up better with Kovalev?

Something tells me he would, even vs Prime Kovalev because he matches up better size-wise with Kovalev than vs Canelo. He just couldn't land on Canelo due to Canelo being so elusive. Maybe vs Kovalev, Smith would have an easier time preparing since they match up better size-wise. Styles make fights and I do think with the right strategy he certainly has the frame and the reach to cause Kovalev problems. But does he have the slill? Did he ever have the skill? Probably not which is why he would probably get destroyed. But current Smith vs current Kovalev, at 175? I think you'd have to favor Kovalev now given the weight advantage.

So, Canelo gets taken 11 rounds by alcoholic Kovalev but stops a younger and prime Kovalev much earlier?

Maybe Smith has an easier time against Kovalev because he's easier to hit than a compact fighter, but at this stage I'd pencil Kovalev in for a TKO. Smith has a good chin, so I'd predict it's a ref or corner stoppage.

Having said that, Smith might go up to 175 and look really good, who knows. But it wasn't even competitive with Canelo, that's the scary thing.

People equate facial marking with getting beaten but how you bruise and cut is based largely on genetics. Some fighters mark up much easier than others. I'm not saying GGG didn't take some bombs from Canelo though
