He KO'd a guy coming off a loss who has less than half as many fights as Canelo. Amazing.

I would hate to be in Eddie Hearns shoes having to explain to the networks why his star attraction keeps taking down tomato cans and getting paid truck loads of money for it. Meanwhile, a skilled undefeated fighter like Andrade--who is on their network--will do commentary and get completely ignored as a potential opponent.

Floyd wasn't the most exciting boxer, but he was at least fighting some of the best guys out there consistently. I'm glad Canelo has worked on his speed and defense, but I wish he would also emulate Floyd's habit of choosing guys who were actually ranked or who had belts. Enough with the Yldrims and Fieldings.

He fought three champions in a row in three different weight classes. Yildrim was a weak fight of course even he knew that and that’s why he got it out the way quickly now it’s on to unification.

I don't have a problem with it as long as this sort of opponent is an additional fight to two competitive fights. The more we see canelo fight in his prime im happy.

David Benavidez failed to retain the WBC Title when he failed to make weight in his last fight, leaving the WBC Title vacant. Eddie Hearn revealed in the post fight press conference that Yildirum was next in line for a WBC Title shot following that, and that Canelo (and I'm guessing Smith as well) had to pay fees to allow them to fight each other for the vacant title instead of Yildirim, with the understanding that the winner would be obligated to fight Yildirim within 90 days.

So Canelo had no choice but to face Yildirim at this time or he would have been stripped of the WBC Title.

I agree, it’s a disgrace for a fighter in his caliber to fight someone like this. Also, it was cool that he fought Kovalev and Smith but it’s was under Canelo’s rules, short notice camp etc, not saying Canelo wouldn’t have won anyway, just it would of been more fun (and easier to give him credit for the wins) if it had been on even grounds.

The Smith fight was not under "Canelo's" rules whatever that even means. The timing of everything was determined by DAZN and the contract situation with Canelo. The reason Kovalev had a short camp was because DAZN had already set the date for Canelo and Canelo had to find an opponent. The reason Smith had a short camp was because Canelo was unable to fight for most of 2020 because of 1) the pandemic 2) the Golden Boy and DAZN contract situation. He couldn't negotiate the fight with Smith until he was able to free himself from his promoter Golden Boy and De La Hoya's contract with DAZN.

Once he was able to reach an agreement to part ways with Golden Boy and the original contract he had with DAZN, then he was able to negotiate with DAZN on a fight by fight basis. That is when he made the Smith match, and it was a short camp because he needed to fight before the end of the year. It wasn't some sinister strategy to give Smith a short camp, it was because he wasn't free to make the match with Smith or anyone for that matter because under the old contract with Golden Boy and DAZN, DAZN had to approve every one of Canelo's opponents and Canelo couldn't fight who he wanted to.

Once he was free of Golden Boy and DAZN, then he and his team were clear to immediately make the fight with Smith. But that could only happen as a unification if they agreed that the winner had to fight Yildirim within 90 days. It's unclear if Canelo or his team had any desire or interest in fighting Kovalev, it may have been DAZN who under that old contract approved Kovalev as an opponent. A lot of you act like Canelo for years has been the one calling all the shorts, but he clearly put his trust in Golden Boy to draw up the contracts that you claim were so unfair to his opponents. Canelo had made it clear that he had issues with Golden Boy and De La Hoya, and the agreement with DAZN. But it only reached a breaking point when the pandemic happened because that took away the guaranteed revenue from sold out venues each time Canelo fought. He was unable to fight and have fans due to the pandemic, so that is what led to the ending of that contract and him parting ways with Golden Boy.

I guess Alvarez should not be fighting Benavidez or Plant either, seeing as they have fewer fights that Yildrim.

You know that this was just a stay busy fight, right?
Alvarez just wanted another fight. He is tired of sitting on the sidelines. The same happened with Rocky Fielding. Alvarez sat out an entire year, rematched Golovkin and then said that he wanted another fight before the year was done.

And Alvarez is now scheduled to fight BJS. So why complain?

I just hope you're on Canelo's payroll and get paid well otherwise your fingers will get tired from all that typing defending him.

Don't be silly, and the idea that I would get "tired" from typing a few paragraphs, you're being a tad overdramtic. It's a matter of understanding why this fight happened. Fighting Yirdirim wasn't Canelo's choice, it was a mandate of the WBC. When Benavidez lost the title on the scales, Yirdirim was next in line for a title shot.

And Canelo wanting to stay active, squeezed this mismatch in before the BJS fight.

It's OK to take a few easy stay busy fights, but Lord this was an especially bad one.
