He’s like 1000-0 in fantasy matchups on here. He Knocked Wlad out but I honestly don’t see why he’s rated so much higher than guys like Brewster or Puritty. It’s like he’s seen as what he could’ve been instead of what he actually was.

We need to start a John Conteh vs. Corrie Sanders H2H thread here.

Someone’s fantasy 1,000-0 has to go!

He's a one trick pony like Wilder tbh

Well he was definitely better than Puritty, he beat him quite handily. Brewster is probably a good comparable, that's Corrie's level imo.

Considering that he skunked Ross during Ross's prime, you certainly do not overrate him.

For the WBU heavyweight championship of the world, no less.

Which illustrates how silly this argument is.

I don't think he's overrated because a lot of posters are here do not understand that he was light on his feet and had no issue doing 12 rounds in the 90s. The problem is that he wasn't getting big fights back then and getting chinned by Nate Tubbs didn't help his momentum.

    That’s ridiculous.

Nobody beats George Benton in a fantasy fight. Not even the 13 guys who beat him in real life.

I think Purrity is a little underrated. Bracket his career between the Morrison fight in 94 and 99 and he beat Wlad, Hipp, and Jorge Luis Gonzales, drew with Tommy, and lost only by decision to guys who would see top 5 rankings with the exception of Donald, who was still pretty good.

This may be an oxymoron, but Ross Purrity was a "great journeyman"

Oh Ross had a fine run. He was a true gatekeeper — sometimes fighters get called that and you look at their records and see they never shut the gate on anyone, haha.

He held his left arm at an obtuse angle, when it should be acute. The axis of his weight shift is simply not something any well trained boxer would ever do. I wouldn’t cross the street to watch him spar.

He was a legitimate boogey man opponent during his time, and a solid fighter.

Probably rated about right. He has some pretty big fans but he has plenty of detractors too.
