I disagree. I think he's arguably the most well rounded heavyweight in history (though I would personally go for Louis). In his prime, he seems to have had it all!

Ugh swag. Hold this conversation plz. I'm in the late 30s now, and I have nearly two full decades to go before getting to Liston.

Norton would be beaten well before he stepped in the ring. Sonny's aura would break him just like Foreman's did. He'd be on the back-foot, terrified like Patterson was, and taken out early IMO. If he wasn't scared to death, he'd probably go in and jab with Liston, looking for his overhand. It's actually a strategy that I think could work, but Norton lacks the chin to take Liston's best for long, and the strength to impose himself on Liston.

If Norton fights scared - which is likely - he loses in one or two rounds. If he fights aggressively, he might see the third or fourth.

I know. The poster I was quoting was making the implication that Norton would've won on the sole basis that he had no quit in him, which is why I replied it wouldn't matter. Every time Liston's name comes up, all @RockyJim brings up is his 2 performances against Ali, never his work beforehand. He seems to think all one needs to do to beat Liston is to stand up to him, actually he's outright said it multiple times. I wish someone told that to Cleveland Williams, Mike Dejohn, Nino Valdez, etc.

While I have a lot of respect for your opinion, Ken Norton's past would indicate his weakness or Freeze against big puncher's, in this case Sonny Liston. In his peak years, Norton was blasted out by Darcia in 1970, and Foreman in 1974, followed by Earnie Shavers, then Gerry Cooney. The two later losses mentioned came as Ken was past his prime and settling into the sunset of boxing's past. No great credit there. I do believe that Liston was a more complete fighter in his peime, he could box and especially hit. I authored this thread for the sole purpose of seeing what Ken could do with a fighter who could box and punch, a measuring stick, so to speak.

A prime Liston was a wrecking machine, Norton just did not do well against a Heavy handed fighter like Liston Norton fights a valiant fight but goes out by ko

It would be like matching Ken Norton against an Oliver McCall of the first fight against Lennox Lewis, we saw how that turned out.

No. Sure there are knockdowns, Liston scores three of four of them.
