........makes $833,000 dollars per round, and 2.5Million in total. For that shocking display. Nobody expected him to win or come close, but that was horrific. It was full 3rds of walking around like a punch bag just so he could throw 3 jabs and one left hook, and then quit on his stool. Something is not right with our sport, sadly.
I was just looking at the WBC rankings for super middleweights. BENAVIDEZ was number 1. also Yildirim failed a drug test in 2019 which appears to have been swept under the carpet. Disgraceful.
So then what's the point of mandatories? Fighters are supposed to move their way up the rankings to get a shot at a title holder. If a fighter holding a title is fighting an opponent that don't deserve a mandatory position then that title may as well mean nothing
The money he got for that so-called ''performance'' was ridiculous. It was clear to everyone the skill gap between Canelo and Avni was immense, but I at least thought Yildirim would try. Instead he stood there like a dork with this blank expression being a punching bag for 9 minutes.
Well the point of a mandatory is that the ABC in question positions the fighter who has the manager with whom they have the best relationship and/or the fighter who they believe will bring them the most cash in sanctioning fees in the near future and provide them with a ranking allowing them to have a title shot. That's all it is. The key is that the fighter doesn't allow too many awful mandatories mar their career, like, for example, Orland Canizales, but rather mix the mandatories in with "real" defences.
He was well out of his depth. Terrible matchmaking, should never have been in there. Let's not forget he was absolutely destroyed by Eubank Jr. His rebuild hasn't been brilliant in terms of who he beat, so how the hell did he warrant a fight for the belts against Canelo? Shocking.
So the question is. What is more frustrating? A mandatory fighter that truely deserves a title shot, that gets side stepped or watching guys like Yldrim fight the champs of the world?
