Plant has fast hands and feet, excellent punch variety, and as another poster mentioned, genuine self-confidence/mental fortitude. He's also a skillful boxer and elusive defensively. Conversely, he admires his work too much for my taste, doesn't always commit to his shots as often as he should, and spends more time on the ropes (particularly later in fights) than a fighter with his style (pure boxer) and punching power should. He's young enough, however, to fix what are generally tactical/technical issues.
His nickname says it all, Caleb "Sweet Hands" Plant lacks the power which would help dismantle his elite level opponents. Furthermore he has bad head movement, which makes him an easy target for fighters like Golovkin, Canelo, Charlo etc. Plant has had his days, however he and other false champions like Callum Smith & Billy Joe Saunders etc will (or already has) eventually face that unfortunate end: losing their titles to elite level fighters.
Pros: Fast hands and feet. Good Ring IQ. Pretty slick defense, but does lose concentration in later rounds. Cons: Lack power. Questionable stamina, as seen in the Uzcategui fight, but could be an issue of first time reaching the big stages.
I hate to say it but Caleb Plant looks fragile. Maybe it's the feminisation of American society that has been going on for years.
Plant doesn`t throw enough shots, he`s a counter punching pot-shotter with no power like Haney and Broner, he doesn`t set his shots up with feints so will countered to death by Canelo.
Plant just released a training video...look good. I wonder what people think of his strengths & weaknessess?
Strengths: 1-Timing. 2-Good out-boxing ability. 3-Reach advantage. Weaknesses: 1-Being fragile. He has fragile hands and probably other fragile bones. 2-Lacks of punch power against durable opponents. 3-Too risky defensive skills. He makes some stupid errors during the defense. This will be perfect for Canelo's punch traps.
no one is mentioning his tendency to tire out in the late rounds. every fight i've seen of Plant, he slows down majorly around round 8. happens every fight. if he tires against canelo he's getting KO'd
