Vitali was old and kept getting injured. His body was breaking down. He was also involved in politics in Ukraine. He had a life outside of boxing. It was the right move to retire.

He didn't need more fights in the way a lot of fighters do when that is all they know and have no other way to make money.

To say he retired because he was afraid of Fury is laughable. Even when Fury won the championship against Vlad, it is not like Fury beat the snot out of Vlad. He more or less ran and pot shotted his way to victory in one of the least action-packed HW title fights ever.

These threads that say this fighter or that fighter are afraid are usually wrong. These guys that get to the top of the sport in part get there because they are hyper competitive and have a lot of self belief.

It's like what Mike Tyson said when Wilder was spouting off that he would have beaten Mike Tyson, Ali, .... Tyson said "That is what he is supposed to think".

Most of the top guys want to test their metal and have tons of self belief. If they were scared chickens, they would be in another line of work.
