This was the closest of the trillogy. I had Norton ahead with 1 round but i didnt't remeber my scorecard. There were many close rounds. I had some even.

For what it's worth, my scores on the trilogy.

    Ali-Norton I - California scoring

    Round 1: Ali
    Round 2: Norton
    Round 3: Ali
    Round 4: Norton
    Round 5: Norton
    Round 6: Norton
    Round 7: Ali
    Round 8: Ali
    Round 9: Norton
    Round 10: Norton
    Round 11: Ali
    Round 12: Norton

Total: 7-5 Norton (In rounds and on points)

There was always the usual dispute of what the round the jaw-break took place. The Ali corner said it was the first round. The Norton corner said it was the 12th. But it was interesting to hear Cosell say in the 8th that there was something wrong with Ali's mouth and surmised it might be a broken tooth. Didn't remember that from the original telecast, so it could have taken place anywhere around mid-fight.

Ali v Norton II - California scoring

California scoring of one point for a round, 2 if there is a knockdown and no points for an even round.

    Round 1: Ali
    Round 2: Ali

Sorry, meant to say he was my neighbor in 14, not that he met him in 14. The guy was already in his 30's when I met him so he was in high school several years before that.

I just watched the fight again. I guess for the 3rd or 4th time. I used a scorecard + i did some extra notes, for most of the rounds. My conclusions:
    - Ali used to dance a lot on his toes, exceptionally much for the 2nd half of his career.
    - He jabbed a lot, but relatively inefficiently. He could barely hit Norton, and just oocasionally managed to kept Norton at distance. Mostly in the first 4-5 rounds.
    - The crowd tended to overreact to Ali's actions.
    - Whenever Ali landed his right hand on Norton it had a noticeable effect, but Norton immediately fought back, kept stalking Ali and managed to land some shots by his own.
    - Norton often bombarded Ali and backed him into a corner. Ali rarely followed up with his own actions, but occasionally used a lot of holding and pushing.

    Ali big rounds: 3,12
    Ali close rounds: 2,4,5
    Norton big rounds: 6,7*,8,10
    Norton close rounds: 9
    rounds even: 1,11

So my result is 5-5 DRAW*
For me however, Norton clearly had the bigger rounds. *Round 7 i definitely consider to rate it as a 10-8 round for Norton, if this is a 10 point must system. As in so many rounds, Norton outworked and outlanded Ali. +He largely dominated and bombarded Ali, and Ali had no answer. So i don't know the 1 point system so well. If it's possible i think Norton deserved an extra point here so it would be 6-5 Norton.

Ali rocked Norton in both rd 6 and 9, so I gave those to Ali. Rd 5 I gave to Norton, though.

I disagree that round 6 was a "big" Norton round or even went to him at all. I thought Ali won it decisively and even seems to have had Norton hurt momentarily. Also it's a hell of a stretch to have round 7 as a 10-8 seeing as Norton didn't knock down Ali, or even come remotely close to it. But I do respect that you were able to post your scorecard as you seem to be the only one who voted for Norton who actually did so.

true! Solid 1-2 + Right hands, wich landed flush. But i dicided to give the rounds to Norton because he used to fight back right after he got caught. In return, he kept stalkinging Ali pushed him into the corner, mangled him and unleashed a lot of power punches. (Some of them did not hit clean. More or less they hit half the cover and half the target. But there was definitely some impacts which noticeably shooked Ali)

Scoring in boxing is not objective. I gave those rounds to Norton because of the aggressiveness and the high quantity of "decent hits". You decided to give more weight to those fewer but flush hits, right on the mark. I see your point and i can understand that.

It is absolutely ok to disagree. Because again...scoring is highly subjective in pro boxing. If you watch round 6 again you will see Norton still outlanded Ali, he was the more agressive man, and fought back after this right hand right on the button. In fact Norton landed more power punches too. The crowd reacted heavy on Ali's right hand...because it hit Norton so cleraly and flush and also Norton kinda walked right into it. But Ali's perfect flush hits were still isolated. That is my (subjective) point of view :)

The big Ali fans don't want to hear he lost the third fight, but he did. Norton out punched and out landed Ali without either guy being hurt in 11 of 15 rounds. These type of fights are not hard to score. Some scorecard fixers will give every close round to Ali even where he was outlanded.

In the first fight,Norton was bringing the hurt in the 12th round and IMO would have stopped Ali had the fight been 15 rounds. Who stopped if first, Norton, the ref, or Ali's corner is the question to me.

This is about the second fight.

But while we're on the other fights: Fun fact, Norton said that the first fight could have gone either way. And most of the ringside reporters gave the third to Ali, as you already know.

But facts like those only count for you (the most blatantly biased poster that has posted here for a longer time) when it supports your point.

I'm looking forward to you proving me right in your reply. ;)

As I've specified in the OP. This is about the 2nd fight, NOT the third.

It's quite shocking just how many on here cannot read the title.
