The fact that that was considered a TKO because the ref waived it off because he saw no point in a countdown is ridiculous. So not being knocked out and trying to get back up but being counted out... is a KO... But ACTUALLY BEING KNOCKED OUT... is not a KO...? What would have been the point in counting Whyte out? You may as well have counted out a clinically deceased hospital patient. Truly the most ******ed thing I've ever seen in boxing. The ref didn't waive off the fight because Whyte was getting hurt, he waived it off... BECAUSE WHYTE WAS KNOCKED OUT AND SAW NO POINT IN COUNTING HIM OUT! Are you seriously saying that we should have to count people out if they're obviously knocked out? The most blatant KO I've seen live.
It's just pedantics, he was brutally KO'd, the ref stood over him like he was getting up. Whyte still thinks he got up at 8 - for some reason. Maybe 8AM the next day???
Looks like the ref totally lost his composure and couldn't continue the count. For him it was clear Whyte was not going to continue.
I mean you want them to go back and change the rule book so youre guy can have a KO on his record instead of a TKO? I guess....
Who cares if it's ko or tko Povetkin beat Whyte and he's gonna get a huge payday to repeat the trick again.
This has always been the case in boxing, local or rules in place determine if it's a KO or a TKO, which sometimes ends up being ridiculous but that's just the way boxing is. When it really gets gnarly when sometimes a cut or other damage caused by headbutt can cause a TKO win. Fast and slow counts against visitors and even helping fighters back on their feet or stools has happened. This however is not a major issue in boxing.
This is very common and has been going on for a long time. Different jurisdictions handle it as they will. It's no big deal. He gets credit for a knockout either way. Michael Buffer doesn't announce KOs and TKOs separately.
Yeah, change the rule book so that obvious KO's are marked down as KO's. What would have been the point of counting Whyte out? The exact same result would have occurred.
Povetkin is an extremely technical fighter, and that KO was pure technique. So technical knockout is fine by me.
